McDermott upset Leeds Board didn't sack Warnock sooner

Nice Guy Brian's on a roll and he's saying all the right things! After Warnock's angst ridden tenure, NGB is only here to have fun. Sod the tension. Sod the stress. Sod the what ifs and the if onlys. Sod the blame culture. Sod the excuse searching. Sod the Big I Am mentality. Sod the persecution complex. In fact, sod everything, let's just smile, cos Brian just wants to have fun!

What a difference a few days make, as Dyche acknowledged after the game when he said:

"Leeds showed their experience and that's interesting because the same group of players weren't playing like that two weeks ago because I saw them.

"So that's an interesting one in itself, but we caught them on a night when they were on the front foot and we weren't quite at it.

"There wasn't that freedom in our play tonight, there wasn't that 'front-foot thinking".

In contrast, NGB, a beaming smile across his chubby chops enthused:

"I've come here to enjoy myself, the staff want to enjoy themselves and I want the players and the fans to enjoy themselves, that's what life's about.

"I've told the players, I have no fear about a game of football and I want them to have the same philosophy."

It's just what the Doctor ordered at Leeds and as NGB added: "I'm just a bit upset there's only three games left, it's a shame there's not six."

Ah, just imagine if GFH Capital had acted sooner, just as I suggested when I blogged on March 19, "Leeds MUST sack Warnock now".

http://thegamesgonecrazier.blogspot.com/2013/03/leeds-must-sack-warnock-now.html

Leeds are now just six points shy of the playoffs. A more decisive Board might now be contemplating an extended season and the possibility of Premiership football!

But NGB is smiling anyway, so altogether now, "Don't worry, be happy!"

  1. Warnock should have been sacked in January. It just goes to show what a Mickey Mouse league this is. Leicester back in a playoff place with their first win in 10,and as you say, Leeds only 6 pts off a place after such a terrible run under Warnock. NGB wasn´t available until March, so better late than never. Roll on August.

  2. As soon as I read this headline I knew it could only have come from you.
Thank goodness because only you could put a slant on... 'I'm just a bit upset there's only three games left, it's a shame there's not six."...to mean I, Brian McDermott, wish they had sacked Warnock earlier...
Let's also remember that you have described these Leeds players as Cart Horses that were ill chosen and not capable of performing to a level required to be promoted.
Are you now officially recinding that opinion?

Home win's against Wed and Burnley are nice in that they have secured Leeds safety ( achieved comfortably before West Ham have done same might I add), but they are not a million miles away from the performances under Warnock which resulted in points dropped in the dying moments of the game. Just fractions represent the difference between having Warnock still on board and having a new Manager.
Nothing wrong with having fun by the way. A sucessful team is usually happy.

    1. No invented quote in the headline. In fact no quotation suggested in the headline, although NGB does use the word "upset" and does say it in relation to having too little time to chase down promotion. The only way that he could have had more time would have been if Warnock had gone sooner. Warnock wasn't going to walk sooner, so for McDermott to have had more time, the Board needed to act by sacking Warnock sooner.

    4. Still very early. Unfortunately the crux of your blog is extremely late. You state that as late as march you suggested that Warnock should go? Thanks for your concern and all that but whilst you're carrying out your extensive and methodical research on events around Elland Rd may i suggest that you read the YEPs comments for jan,feb and march? We weren't suggesting warnock left,we were demanding it. Anyway to conclude,Romania is 2 hours ahead and you're 2 months behind.

  5. That title is worthy of The Sun, Mirror, Guardian and all the other bullshit conjuring gutter press. I don't get you hf! You used the excuse that your dislike for NW was at the roots of your snide sarcasm, but it's so obvious that excuse was a lie. It seems to me that you're lacking something meaningful in your life. You need to forget all this invented life and step back into the real world, the world where your fellow WHU fans think you're a fool, the world where you never go to watch your team.

    3. Oh I am so sorry I didn't actually put The Daily Mail. I thought you might have been able to deduct for yourself that the mail was covered in the part where I'd put, and all the other bullshit conjuring gutter press.

  22. Yes, the owners dither before taking decisive action but if they get it right eventually I'll settle for that - rather than being a Blackburn or a Portsmouth. Leeds now have hope for a full recovery if they can sort out that sieve of a defence. But a great chance passed by this season with so many points lost late in games by a tired looking team hanging on after playing anti-football.

  37. I support Leeds wholeheartedly and sometimes, particularly over the Jimmy Saville issuse I find HF more than a little irritating but quite fun to trade the odd insult with, however some of the personal comments from individuals who claim to be Leeds supporters are beyond the realms of common decency,so i say to these individuals if indeed they are Leeds fans as they claim to be, don't make uncle Ken right about you by acting like a moron or even worse subhuman.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Spot on, though I don't think I've ever said anything terrible about Savile, in fact I said opposition fans were wrong to taunt Leeds fans simply because Savile was born in the city. Indeed I pointed out that it was perfectly possible that some of his victims may have been in the hospital in Leeds.

      Delete
    2. Did I? When? I criticised Leeds fans for not showing up in greater numbers on the anniversary of his death. How is that mocking Speed? West Ham had a full house on the anniversary of Bobby Moore's death. Our fans show respect to our club heroes.

  39. What you did wrong in the Jimmy Savile matter is bringing it up deliberately alongside the name Leeds, which you were well aware would stir up a hornets nest of hatred.
How you frame your comments for maximum controversy is quite obvious and make you a displeasurable individual.

    1. I responded to others linking Savile to the club, including your own "fans" who sang in support of him at the Sheffield Wednesday game. I said that any link was unfair on the club and on the city. Shame your own "fans" didn't feel the same way!

  40. Hello, knock knock , are you listening? You wrote a headline to the effect of 'Leeds link to Jimmy Savile untrue"..as opposed to saying nothing...

You could have had minimal hatred generated had you have chosen to say nothing.
Staying silent on this was a choice you never gave a second thought to because you will stir up hatred amongst the Leeds fans at every opportunity you get.
You had a chance to be morally mature and let it all slide, but then again when have you ever done this?

    1. Knock, knock. Typical revisionism. The headline was: Jimmy Savile and the Unfair Leeds Connection

Want to check? Follow this link.

      http://thegamesgonecrazy.blogspot.ro/2012/10/jimmy-savile-leeds-connection.html

      Please note my opening paragraph:

Some rather distasteful individuals have posted comments on here trying to besmirch the City of Leeds and Leeds United Football Club on the basis that Savile was born in Leeds. One idiot who purports to support the club has even tried to goad me into penning an article designed to stir up hatred between our clubs. How sad.

      And my paragraph:

Anyway, there will be no Savile jibes from me and certainly no attempt to tarnish the City nor its football club because of his abusive actions. It is a sad final chapter to what was previously a weirdly epic story and the big questions for me are the extent to which employees were pressurised by senior managers not to spill the beans and why, exactly, these managers felt to need to cover up Savile's actions.

Now, you explain why you are trying to use that article against me. I quote the first three comments left on the thread:

      Rod Belfitt said...

A fine article HF. Respect to you for those balanced and well articulated views. Anyone who saw the JS interview with Louis Theroux a few years ago will not be surprised at the revelations.

    2. You never address the question Sir. Why write anything??

Just because one or two agree with your words doesn't make them justified. I put it to you (again) that keeping silent was a better option.
You were well aware that but writing that headline you were going to create a shit storm. The content of what you said, being right or wrong, is irrelevant to the damage you caused by writing it. You knew this. You chose to do it deliberately , knowing the consequences and then you purport to be doing a good thing. why don't you include the quotes from a few others who didn't see it the same way as those you chose to include above. Better not do that, then that would be a measured response.

      Delete
    3. What was wrong with a headline that read, "Jimmy Savile and the Unfair Leeds Connection"? I think that sums up the article and makes clear that anybody linking Savile with the City or the club is being unfair.

      Delete
    4. Oh come on, why do you keep ignoring the point?

You know as well as anyone that this was deliberate provocation.
As Leeds biggest antagonist on the web you write a headline linking the two words- Savile (suspected Paedo) and Leeds (Team you loathe)
Game over, job done, another excellent piece of shit stirring under the innocent guise of the articles content 'defending Leeds' from a link with Savile that YOU Chose to accentuate. It's not clever at all. It caused a lot of unpleasantness and was quite deliberate. Fooling a few who saw this as you doing the right thing was to be expected but don't think most didn't see through it for what it was

  41. Now let's deal with disrespect to Gary Speed. Please follow this link:

    http://thegamesgonecrazy.blogspot.ro/2011/11/why-gary-why.html

Again, justify your allegations in the light of this!

    ReplyDelete
  42. In case you can't open the link, I carry it in full:

What a terrible waste. Gary Speed was a very decent player, a very decent bloke by all accounts and, based on recent Wales performances, a more than very decent manager; but at aged 42 he has thrown away his life and left a wife and two young children in mourning. What ever lies behind this, his decision to take his own life was a wasteful, foolish and a sadly selfish act from a man respected for the help and support he has given to others. God knows what his family are going through at the moment and they should be our first concern as we ponder why Gary, why?

It certainly could have nothing to do with football because Speed was surfing the crest of a wave inside the game. If depression was to blame - as some are already suggesting - then those who chuck around comments about mental health issues - and there have been a few on here today - might like to stop and think. We have accepted that using terms related to physical and mental disability as insults are unacceptable, but some idiots still seem to think it is fair game to use mental illness itself as a stock insult. Maybe if they didn't, those who genuinely suffer might feel more comfortable about seeking help.

Congratulations are due to Kenny Dalglish for his statement and for making the decision to rest Bellamy. Shankly shamefully claimed that football was more important than life and death; but Dalglish has righted that wrong today by saying that grieving is "more important than any football match". Spot on.

Congratulations too to the fans at the Swansea v Villa and Liverpool v Man City games. Stupid rivalries were put aside and the applause in both stadia was very touching.

Life goes on, but sadly not for Gary Speed. His pain is over but that pain has been passed to a wife, loving parents and two young children - as well as to current and former players up and down the land who seem to have genuinely loved the guy. Given's tears and the inability of Hartson to broadcast for Radio 5 Live say it all.

Football is in a state of shock and perhaps we should all take stock. It seems such a wonderful life but the pressures are acute and players and managers are people, with human emotions, and can be hurt like everybody else. Those hunting down Kean at Blackburn and Bruce at Sunderland might like to reflect. Of course we feel passionate about the game and the club we love but sometimes we cross the line in an unacceptable way and sometimes a terrible price is paid, a price far worse than relegation.
