Leeds Messiah McDermott Collects His Cross As He Exits St Andrews

A line of managers files past a bust of Don Revie.

Patel: Crucifixion?
Warnock: Yes.
Patel: Good. Out of the door, line on the left, one cross each.
[Next manager]
Patel: Crucifixion?
Nice Guy Brian: Er, no, promotion actually.
Patel: What?
Nice Guy Brian: Yeah, they said I hadn't done anything wrong and I could lead the club to the Premiership.
Patel: Oh I say, that's very nice. Well, off you go then.
Nice Guy Brian: No, I'm just pulling your leg, it's crucifixion really.
Patel: [laughing] Oh yes, very good. Well...
Nice Guy Brian: Yes I know, out of the door, one cross each, line on the left.

First away game, first defeat, no goal scored...The Life of Brian is just the same as The Life of the Warnock!

  3. let me guess you have been in titan park and its been 110 degrees and you have had some lovely beers and you have been in the casino and won 10 grand and you have watched the west ham game on a 100 inch screen with 'slow motion replays'and every other punter in the bar was a beautiful romanian woman.

the reality is,you have been in your dingy flat all day with your ugly wife watching the west ham game via a dodgy stream on your laptop.

  6. I'm starting to sort of get you now. You're the kid everyone ignored at school because no matter how hard you tried no one liked you - except maybe Stani! Do you ever regret these posts because you really should! They are really cringeworthy.

When you told a joke at school did everyone stop, turn to you quizzically and stare in silence? You're really not funny HF. In the words of the funny guys you borrowed your material from " you're just a naughty boy".

    Do better next time please.

  8. Come on HF give the guy a chance its only his third game in charge and he only took over the day before on his first game. You do like to jump on a defeat like a hyena on m-cat, back off bubble boy and give the guy a chance. Me thinks you are happy with Shrek keeping you in the premiership with todays result.
P.S Pound to a penny you will stick with the mighty whites and keep posting and not move on to another team. Am I right or am I right. Answers on a postcard please!

  15. Another idiotic blog, we lost 1-0 away to a decent Birmingham team, given how poor our away form is, being solid and trying to nick a game is a good plan for the remainder of this season. You also neglect to notice that through injuries and lack of squad depth, we had 4 full backs on the pitch at full time. Despite the loss and injuries, the team persevered, trying to play it on the ground despite the circumstances, which at this stage of the season is more important than an irrelevant result anyway. Finally, the only reason we didn't score and presumably get at least a point was the performance of potential future England number 1, Jack Butland.

Perhaps you should do a bit of research before posting such jargon, you decided to ignore my points on your last entry (Because I was clearly right, and even used West Ham as a reference to my argument), let's see if I can get anything out of you this time?

    3. I'm sorry Noel but can't you see what you are doing, what Leeds fans were doing all season? McDermott said how important it was to win games; now with defeat, the result doesn't matter. Nothing will change if the excuses keep being made. McDermott is a nice guy, he isn't a Messiah. Keep looking on the bright side of life by all means, but can you really see anything changing without money being spent, and can you see GFH Capital spending money? SOT

  16. Of course results are important, but before the game we were pretty much mathematically safe, and now we are mathematically safe. So yes, while it was important to win games, it isn't now. The last 2 games and indeed the Birmingham game have a higher significance, allowing Brian to analyse the squad, decide who stays and who goes, what his tactics will be, who his captain will be. There are many things more important than the results now, which is testament to the first 2 wins under his management - under Warnock I imagine we'd still be in a relegation scrap, in which case yes, a 1-0 loss away at Birmingham would have been disastrous.

While McDermott may not be a messiah, from what I've seen at Reading and Leeds, he's a long term manager, he gets involved at all levels of the club, can work on a budget (Which may or may not be required, I think GFHC do have money, not megamillions but enough - Warnock was backed to a reasonable extent to say he was only ever going to leave at the end of the season or have to completely restructure again if we get promoted), brings through the youth players and gets the best out of what he's got (Admittedly do did Warnock until Leeds).

If anything this loss is good for the fans, it keeps expectations realistic, if we'd won all our remaining games people would've expected us to walk the championship next season, which is absurd. Hopefully he'll be given the time by the fans to implement his ideas, personally I'd take a stable 2013/2014 provided he brings through the youth and plays nice football, we've rushed things for years and it hasn't worked...patience is a virtue.

  17. A sensible voice but will you be heard above the baying hounds Noel? McDermott has a massive mountain to climb because of the squad left behind. Most are under contract for next season and there will not be a queue of clubs looking to take the likes of Brown, Hell Hadji, Tonge and co off your hands. I disagree that a stable season is enough. That's another year outside the Prem, another year of falling behind, another year of teams coming down to the Championship with parachute payments that Leeds don't have access to. You needed to get up this year and the failure of GFH to invest in January suggests they have no money I'm afraid. SOT

  18. I appreciate that I'm in a minority with my opinions, but there are a lot more that are coming round to this point of view now, even after yesterday's loss, the majority of fans are still overwhelmingly happy with McDermott's impact so far, personally all I hoped for after him coming in was to avoid relegation, so job done this season as far as I'm concerned. While he is largely stuck with this squad, the majority of them are good enough to be squad players at least - admittedly there is some pure dead wood though i.e. Brown. Players like Tonge and Diouf flourish in a team that plays it on the ground, as epitomised during Tonge's initial loan and the last 3 games.

Of course I would like more than just stability, but every season since being relegated to league one, we have always demanded and expected promotion, when it has been unrealistic since we got back in the championship. We have seen with teams like Leicester, Forest and Blackburn, that money isn't a guarantee of success in this division, of course it helps though. There was reasonable investment in January, the permanent signings of Tonge and Hall, bringing Warnock in, the Morison deal looked reasonably decent on paper, the only player we "missed out" on was Burke, because we refused to be held ransom for a player to be out of contract. Personally, I'd have been absolutely over the moon if we got Burke, he's a quality player in the right position, and it would have been great if they paid up. But realistically, 750k is a lot of money for someone on a 6 month contract and we all knew this season was going nowhere due to the poor performances even when results were ok.
