Leeds Miss Out On Perfect Warnock Replacement

Well they dillied and dallied, dallied and dillied and lost their way every time they were away from home, and now the Leeds owners have lost the man they should have appointed when they bought the club. Strachan, it seems, is set to drink from the poison chalice that is the Scotland manager's job, and so the services of a former hero of the club have been lost for...well six months at least!

Had Strachan been brought in, he would surely have galvanised the troops and fans in a way that Warnock never could. For Strachan, unlike Warnock, has an affection for the club. And Strachan, unlike Warnock, is loved by the fans.

Leeds's loss is Scotland's gain. But ask Strachan which job he would have preferred and surely he would have opted for Elland Road and the possibility of reanimating a deceased giant of the game, instead of trying to get a spark of life out of a national team that were never better than also rans!

  4. You're probably right for a change, but you're still a loser with a Leeds obsession.

  5. whats his record as a manager in England like though?

  6. We'll take Paul Lambert ...cant be long before he's sacked

  7. Your wrong (again). Apart from Celtic, whom even you could manage with yours eyes shut, what has he done as a gaffer. I would have taken O'Driscoll ahead of Strachan. RDM, Di Canio or Poyet for me. Fingers crossed we get hammered tonight then 'Colin' may hopefully head off to his retirement home in Cornwall

  8. More sensational comments from my favourite leeds blogger.
Any leeds fans who profess they don't like this column should stop. Clicking through.
Keep up the. Nonsense - I love it.

  9. C'mon explain to us all how LUFC have missed out on someone that they didn't make an approach for or show any interest in.

It's like us saying your lot missed out on a chance of a return for old "Arry the Ammer" when he went to QPR.

Just another sensation seeking headline of non-substance hf!

  11. Sean O driscoll could have done a cracking job too i think.

  12. Strachan is not loved by the fans as much as you think. He was always ex-Man U and infamously clashed with the Leeds fans when Matt Busby died. Leeds fans didn't exactly observe the minute's silence, Strach let the Leeds fans know what he thought of that and the Leeds fans let him know what they thought of what he thought. Plus he was a bit of disaster as an English football manager so he is not exactly on the top of our list. There's only 3 possible managers Leeds fans are talking about at the moment. Poyet. Di Matteo. Di Canio.

    1. And quite right too. What sort of scum disrespects the dead? I don't care about club loyalty, why show disrespect to a great of the game? That just shows the lack of class of Leeds fans I'm afraid.

    2. It wasn't long ago west ham fans were chanting racist shit at spurs fans how much class does that show w&nker!!!!

      Delete
    3. Hammersfan, I agree. We just sang out Don Revie's name while the minute's silence was being observed but it also shows one more thing. You don't know Leeds and your article is wrong. Stick to West Ham. They're about your level (local sewer).

    4. You "just sang" during the minute's silence? How classless is that? Sorry, my friend, but that is deplorable.

    5. West ham knob bleating on about class !

    6. Have to say as a Leeds fan anyone agreeing with singing during a minutes silence has a screw loose!!!

  13. Ok HF. Why oh why then if the Leeds job is to become vacant very soon has GS shot off to the beloved land of shortbread, haggis, kilts and bagpipes. Don't you think GS would be watching your suggested imminent vacancy like a hawk if he was aching to fill the hot shoes. There is no doubt he would fit the bill, be a fans favourite but may be saying in twelve months time 'sod this, I've had enough of Bates and his crew... I'm out of here. At least Warnock has the resilience to take all the ownership bull but yes he will eventually blow them all out of the water. Good luck to Gordon. He's doing the right thing....

  14. Not the man for the job at Elland Road. I think all Leeds fans would agree they don't want Strachan. Another pointless article about Leeds.

  15. Strachan's managerial record is patchy at best, Leeds are better off with Warnock

    ReplyDelete
  16. Don't be ridiculous. Strachan was a great player but his managerial record is poor. We have to stop this romanticism about former players returning Messiah-like to bring us to the promised land. Lets look forward, not back.

  17. Kelvin cline's back ffs

  18. Couldn't agree more. When he came in as a player he made things happen. Not the greatest communicator but makes things happen and knows the Howard Wilkinson way which got Southampton places in his time there. Warnock out out out! Birmingham 5 Leeds 0 you see!

  20. Absolute nonsense. Strachan has a terrible record as a manager

    ReplyDelete
  21. dont see it that way at all.
strachan has essentially failed nearly everywhere he has gone so its no suprise he is out of the real firing line with the scotland job.
he would have been a disater at leeds or any other club to be honest.
    ask coventry,southampton and middlesbro

  22. We wanted Fat Sam looking after another bunch of some also rans

  23. warnock hasnt been sacked tho so this doesnt make any sense.doh!

  24. Probably very true

  25. What a ridiculous statement, ask Strachan if he'd rather manage his National Side or a side in the Championship, where with both Coventry and Middlesborough has failed miserably.

Even as much as a legend as he is for Leeds fans, a sentimental appointment would get us further in the mire! Gary Mac ring any bells?

  26. Mixed response here. Some want him, some don't. I was relieved when West Ham appointed Pardew ahead of Strachan.

    1. Who cares about West Ham? I thought this was a Leeds blog !!! Seriously though great player but think returning as manager would have not been a real success. Think Poyet would be a good choice but it seems anyone would struggle at the present without some substantial investment in team. We need a settled, best 11 and have done for years; we are just treading water(metaphor of course!)

    2. It's just another attempt by the Author to write off Warnock. In terms of their records I'd much rather have Warnock than Strachan.I for one agree he's doing a 'great job'
Oh and your blog about the Birmingham Game being so important to his future. Come on Hammersfan, we could all see through that. You didn't think Leeds would win. Admit it. Now give Warnock the praise he deserves for overcoming a tough week in the media to get a good result.

  27. Ok we all hate the scum in red unless you support them. How ever the little Ginger Scot, is a leeds legend to real fans at least id go as far to say his best came out whilst in a white shirt, loyalty and played for the club. Its also true most great players never quite make the grade in management. Id take the little guy any day in replacement of that untalented waste thats in charge at present. He might even teach one or two how to actually play and pass the ball. Im lucky enough to say ive met him yonks ago, same year we won the old division 2. True gent. Good post HF

  29. All I can say is thank god I didn't call my month old son, Luciano. I was that far away and would have done so if the missus let me.

Thanks for the memories and all the best with the rest of your career. If anyone in football deserves a pay day its you.

All this debate about whether to sack Warnock is completely pointless tbh. Unless real change happens at the top it won't make the slightest bit of difference, I'm afraid. Only a fool would think that Leeds would still be in 11th place if Warnock had been given the support promised at the outset.

  30. If you want to get promoted to the premier league and you need a manager to guide you there. The person to do that without a shadow of a doubt is colin. His record surely shows this. Try and prove otherwise. I dont really like the man and once we get in the prem we should only give him a handfull of games before sacking him. But for now hes the best in the championship.

Oh and its nice to see a west ham fan caring so much about the welfare of Leeds United. Aww bless
