Former Leeds Players Sucking Up To GFH Capital

It seems that certain former players are putting "hospitality" contracts or honoury roles above their love for the club. First Lorimer devoted about 10,000 rambling words to justifying GFH Capital's approach to the transfer market. And now Dominic I will lie down and be a Matteo to be walked all over has called for a "sensible approach" to the January window.

According to Dick and Dom, Leeds cannot expect to compete with Leicester City in the transfer market. Hang on, did I read that right? Did he say Leeds cannot expect to compete with Manchester City? No, it was actually Leicester City!

Dear God, Leeds have just been bought out by a bank committed to bringing Premiership football to the City, but the club can't compete in the transfer market with the club currently sitting FIFTH in the Championship! So what does that tell you? Well logically the gap will widen between Leicester and Leeds over the remainder of the season and so GFH Capital are accepting failure already!

Where is the ambition? Where is the commitment? According to Matteo, no club in the Championship can afford wages of £35,000 a week. No they can't, if they remain in the Championship. But there is truth in the saying, you have to speculate to accumulate. West Ham paid over £4m to sign Nolan AFTER being relegated and committed to wages of £40,000 per week. And where are West Ham now? In the Prem. And Nolan's leadership and goals were a major factor in securing promotion.

Yes, of course, West Ham benefited from the parachute payments, but those rewards are available to any team that secures promotion. If GFH Capital are serious about taking Leeds to the Prem, they have to invest serious money in the squad.

Matteo speculates that Leicester offered inflated wages to Wood. Let's say they offered £20k a week more than Leeds, that would amount to any extra £1m in wages over a full season. That is peanuts when compared with the £60m available in Sky money for the team finishing BOTTOM of the Prem. If GFH are not prepared to gamble £1.25 as a transfer fee and an inflated wage bill of £1m to have a shot at promotion, what bloody use are they? That's £2.25m for an exciting young striker who could be worth double that in a year's time if he keeps scoring. That looks a good bet to me!

Leeds fans will respond to this with the usual abuse but isn't it time to open your eyes guys? What's changed since GFH Capital took over the club from Bates? It's looking more and more as if the long suffering fans of the club have been mugged, whilst the puppets of Bates have simply become the mouth pieces for the Arab bank, no doubt to secure ongoing gratuities from the club. I may be a cnut, but I warn you, Bates, Lorimer, Matteo and GFH Capital are taking the fans of the club for total cnuts, exploiting blind loyalty and desperate hope in an utterly cynical fashion.

Wood might have fired Leeds to the Prem. Why are Leeds fans not expressing fury that Leicester City outbid one of the biggest clubs in the country to get him? It's like West Ham landing a top target at the expense of Chelsea - ridiculous!

  7. Why shud we pay a player 30k a week like wood for xample. we have becchio who earns 12k a week n scores more goals than torres... i aint bin funny but it dont matta wot u pay a player at championship level tjey either play and score or play for the shirt.. leicester have bin rich for 2year and not secured promotion. they have beckford on 35k and hardly eva scores. in fact he on loan at hudds n still doesnt perform. we had him on 10k aweek in league 1 n scored loads of ttms.. just proves that the idiots running this blog site neva do their research befor spoutin their horrid cockney mouths off.. once again something not backed by facts.. we have heart and play for the shirt in our team not some playa who thinks hes the best in the world on 40k a week. grow up n get a grip gey ure facts then report something. we own u and always will. once we hit the big ttm agen u know we will be there for life and in europe befor u even blink agen

  13. Leeds have yet to spend in this window but its early days yet.Lets wait and see how it pans out first before passing judgement and lets not forget the way we spent money before and where that got us.We are in a position to attack the play offs all we need is 2 or 3 good signings for the final push. What we don't need is panic buying simples

Fair point(s). We Leeds fans are used to be treated like fools by Bates so it's difficult not to be cynical and pessimistic about GFH, however it's only January 5th - this is an important window for Leeds' new owners to demonstrate their intentions for the club.Btw, Woods - doing the business at the moment but I would prefer CMS.

Meet the new boss same as the old boss. Let's hope not.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What they also did make sure to point out is that it must be a sustainable investment. What happens if they make investment and then fail with promotion? Businesses do not succeed with a series of gambles. While this is a good article and does raise some valid questions i will reserve my judgement of GFH till the start of next season. Leeds supporters need to have patience at least till start of next season. Which is unlikely. MOT :-)

Where you got the £10m transfer budget from i don't know, there is no football club that announces their budgets.
Regarding Warnock with the Leicester comment he was reprimanded by GFH they completely denied that what Warnock had said was true and Warnock himself has retracted the statement.
GFH have always said thay would not spend crazy money BUT would back the manager with funds to challenge for the PL.

  35. Ive read your blog lots and never comment cos cant be arsed giving some jealous bubble blowin cockney twat the attention he so clearly craves for cos hes a loner but this time i feel the need to put a few points across...

Im glad we havent signed chris woods because no way is he worth 25k a week we could sign a lot better for less, comparing it to when west ham signed nolan is an absolute joke too when west ham was receiving parachute payments so wasnt much of a financial gamble really was it also after selling scott parker the money was available go spend on a player of that quality...the matter of fact is gfh before they even completed the takeover told us they would not spend silly money but would provide funds and i know for a fact were in talks with stoke and west brom for tonge and thomas so is this not backing the manager???? I think you need to get a fucking grip hammersfan you sad lonely bastard!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. yes you do speak so rubbish about Leeds, but i also agree with others, i am baffled by GHD'S (GFH)appearance to be unable to compete to buy a player for just over a million, surely they are pulling a bit of wool over eyes, how the heck would they spend about 55million buying a club then have no dosh to fund the team going forward, it dunt make sense, its not like they could sell it on as it is to make any profit, but i sadly think it will all go pear shaped as ususl,, m.o.t

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with most of this though I do not like to mention Matteo and Lorimer in the same context. Lorimer sold out long ago, peddling the Bates and now the GFH line in his paid role as a club Director. Matteo has not hesitated, in the YEP, to criticise the club's protracted failure to invest in the team. Also he makes a point about paying wages over the top.If Leeds did this now, running at an operating loss, a failure to secure a quick return to the Prem would see them back into administration

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have read A number of articles from the closet Leeds fan and
have come to the conclusion that you my friend are a total knob. The transfer window has only just opened and nobody yet knows who if anybody Leeds will be signing.I am sure Colin knows who he wants and as Leeds fans we must trust both him and GHF.The last thing we want to do is follow the Risdale example and cost LUFC another 10 years of shit football in a shit league watching highlights at 1230 at night

    ReplyDelete
  39. The £10m warchest you've referred to in a few posts now was only ever an optimistic rumor at best - GFH never put any figures out, just mentioned "sustainable spending" in their takeover interview.

To me, sounds like they want to amass a squad of players who want to play for the shirt, not for the wages. Like Becchio, who has had offers elsewhere, but stuck it out in League 1 with us because of a love for the club. Something which is missing a lot in modern football. More recently the same goes for Diouf, who wanted to play for the challenge as opposed to receiving higher wages elsewhere at bigger clubs.

Sadly this isn't something than can be achieved overnight, or indeed by the end of the season probably. It's a long-term plan to build the squad gradually rather than throw money at signing big name players and end up as a Yo-yo side like so many others have done in recent years. QPR have thrown millions are gathering wage-hungry players, and are sat firmly at the button of the Prem. Despite a sneaky coupon-busting victory over QPR last week, they primarily run around for 90 minutes like a bunch of drunken toddlers so they can collect their over-inflated pay checks.

Finally, Lorimer and Matteo are 'sucking up' to GFH because they're still on the payroll. If they start hitting out at them this early into the takeover (still only 5 days) they're gonna be down the job centre quicker than Bates eats his breakfast caviar.

    Nom nom nom. MOT.

  43. As speculating to accumulate is the reason why we are in the championship in the fist place it would seem foolish to do so on Chris Wood (in this case) who wants 30k a week and has scored less goals than becchio who is on around 15k. We can compete with Leicester on the transfer fee,1.25 million but it would be wrong to break our wage structure like this. Also it's only 5 days in I'm sure there is still a lot more to happen

    ReplyDelete
  44. Decent article HF. any leeds fans that have half a brain wernt shouting about a ten million warchest though. That was never going to happen. I agree about the woods thing but only on the fee, matteo was bang on, 35k a week is mad money at this level. Yea leicester and west ham etc have been known to pay it but where will some of these clubs be financially in five or ten years?
As leeds fans we have all run out of patience but we also have to remember where we came from and we dont want to go down the silly money road again

    ReplyDelete
  45. To pay 1 player 30k wages will more then likely put a few noses out when they look at their wages in comparison which could lead to quite a few disgruntled players asking for a pay rise, so it wouldn't just be that one player's wages you'd have to take into account. Interesting read though
