Matt Mills a strange acid test for Leeds owners GFH Capital

This is a bit of a strange one. Matt Mills hasn't exactly been successful since he parted from McDermott, but if you believe the Yapping Post, Bolton are keen to offload him and Mills is desperate to make the move to Leeds.

Leeds undoubtedly need another centre back and Mills did well for McDermott before he was sold to Leicester - all the pieces seem to fall into place quite nicely so surely this will be the first deal of the summer for Leeds. Or will it?

To begin, this is all speculation and Nice Guy Brian may not fancy Mills any more. But if he does, there is still the little matter of a transfer fee.

I use the phrase "little matter" advisedly, because Bolton are apparently willing to accept just one million for the guy that McDermott sold for four and a half times that amount when more money than sense Leicester came calling.  The big question, however, is whether GFH Capital will stump up even that modest amount to finance a push for the Prem. Warnock tried to sign the guy on loan in the January window and was knocked back, and the cash wasn't made available to buy him then.

Leeds fans should watch what happens - or doesn't happen - very closely. Mills is a litmus paper. If GFH Capital turn blue at the thought of shelling out a million, their lack of intent will be clear for all to see.

  3. Your comment is valid bit does not address the whols issue. The more pertinant question to raise is what promises did GHF make to McDermatt to attract him to LU. He has already off loaded 8 of the playing staff and therefore has saved those wages. Will he have to sell before he can buy? a bit like WHU selling Rio Ferdinand to LU (whatever did happen to that £18m)

Fair comment HF,still early days yet but as you rightly point out it will give a good indication of GFH/Bates ambition or lack of it. There has been a lot of positive talk regarding GFH/Bates lately and their reduction of ticket prices. Now the prices are just expensive as apposed to extortionate, but it,s still a move in the right direction. Would be more than happy to see Jason Pearce move on if wages were an issue.Ross Killock is a more than capable replacement, absolutely delighted to see him on the bench at Watford. Saw him play alongside Pearce in a developement game and if you didn,t know you would of said Killock was the senior player.

  16. To me the numbers don't add up. He's third in the pecking order at Bolton, with a high salary (for the Championship) and potentially an asking price of a million quid? Hmm, it suggests to me that Bolton will have to bend a little to get a deal done. If Leeds truly want him then it may be more prudent to take him on a season long loan, with an option to buy and help Bolton unload the wages. I just cannot see Leeds or anyone paying the asking and the wages.

    1. It's good to see someone who actually knows and understands what they are talking about. An acid test for GFH, you really haven't got a clue have you Hammersfan?

  17. If you read the yapping post for your football news I can see why you are so far behind with everything,
Then again your club know all about bringing in players that are out of form and generally crap

  18. Whitesfan, do you know how many players we are going to be linked with between now and the start of the new season?

If you continue with this very time you see a bit of agent talk then, trust me, you are in for a very long, boring summer. If you enjoy this sort of idle speculation then may I direct you to the transfer rumours website where you can fill your boots. Enjoy!
