Is West Ham's Carlton Cole heading for Leeds or QPR?

Released by West Ham, Carlton Cole is now looking for a new club, and the Patron Saint of Barn Doors might well become a target for Leeds and QPR.

Nice Guy Brian tried to sign Carlton as recently as January but West Ham refused to do business with Reading, and Cole wasn't keen to leave. McDermott's need for a target man is far greater at Leeds than it was at Reading and Carlton may fit the bill. Fans who scoff at his scoring record fail to understand the qualities that Cole brings to the table, and anyway, a record of 14 goals from 28 starts in 2011-12 shows that even Carlton No Goals can find the net regularly when playing against Championship defenders.

However, McDermott may face competition from 'Arry, who could calculate that adding a two thirds fit Cole to the half fit Johnson and Zamora would make up two fit strikers between them. Like Nice Guy Brian, 'Arry has been linked with Cole before, although the mooted move to Spurs never materialised.

The big problem for Leeds may be Carlton's wage demands and his love of London. He is used to playing for a big club and he may baulk at joining Leeds therefore, whilst the prospect of moving North of the Udinese Calcio Gap may not appeal.

  3. yeh i agree with ya for a change! it would be a good championship signing but i can only see him signing for QPR and i also doubt we could afford his wages.but tell me,when you say he is used to playing for a big club are you talking about when he started at chelsea?

  5. Yeh, used to a big club. Thats why he would be better off at Leeds, and not a tin pot club like Wet Spam. Knob

  6. Leeds united would be too big a proposition for Carlton Cole. As with most strikers he would find the constant expectation unbearable and could actually end up destroying his career. He should stick with the so called traditionally small clubs.

  8. listen hammer, most your stuff true to the mark when you talk about leeds, and yes some of it is good banter, but that big club gesture above, even you know is rubbish. wham never ever be as big as leeds. the fact we in division lower doesnot make any difference.you can go all over europe on your hols,or up and down this country and see leeds shirts, leeds fans and people who know leeds fans. hammer, you cant say that about wham!! can you? and when we do get back in that prem in 2/3 years time and all the glory hunters jump on board it will be even more prominent, even to your eyes. Still, you got what you wanted - chuck in an unsubtle jibe about your wide boys somehow being a bigger club and you'll get your hits.

My son's a Watford supporter - tells me you spent the 1st half of last season abusing Zola et al until it got pointless cause (a) Watford were clearly the star team of the Championship and (b) they didn't have enough supporters to warrant winding them up.

I guess one way of putting it is that you were just cutting your teeth on them. Another way would be to say you're a sad, lonely tosser who can't get interested enough or generate enough interest in his own club.

  20. We (Leeds) have no chance. Bigger sides with ambition will grab him. Palace, Watford, Fulham will want him.

Would be great for us but sorry no chance

  21. I doubt this will transpire, he will end up staying down south. However, I'm surprised you haven't picked up on the release of Jerome Thomas from WBA. He was on loan at Leeds last season and was very successful. Would be a great signing for Leeds. Maybe you had your head up your arse when this news broke.

  26. Carlton Cole to Leeds!

260 games played 59 goals scored. With those stats he'd probably miss his turn off and end up playing in the SPL.

Used to playing for a big club? He has no club HF, Guiseley are a bigger club than no club! Can't you do the maths?

  27. Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Scott Parker...... does the list of players wnting to leave for a bigger club never end.

  28. More research required before posting articles. I have checked his Wiki page and if that is correct, then Cole has never actually played for a big club.

  31. I would think the thought of leaving a small club like West Ham and joining a Big club like Leeds will be a bit to much pressure for him to deal with, maybe best he joins another small club like QPR, it would be like leaving one barn door for another.
