Promotion next season for Leeds? This season isn't over yet!

I don't support Leeds, and I'm getting royally pissed off by the defeatism emanating from everybody associated with the club. OK, the last two results were bitterly disappointing and OK, Leeds are 7 points adrift of a play off place, but Watford away apart, the run in is easy and seven wins out of eight games, whilst unlikely, is not impossible. And 73 points would see Leeds into the play offs. In fact, with Leicester and Middlesbrough badly out of form, 71 might suffice.

But from Leeds Legends, to manager, to England U21 international, they are all queueing up to say that, with a little bit of quality added in the summer - Ronaldo and Messi perhaps - this team could be transformed and push for promotion NEXT SEASON.

Bugger that for a game of flat caps and whippets! Whilst you are in a race, your focus should be solely on that race.

Poor old GFH Capital are desperate for cash, and every representative of the club, past and present, seems to be calling the remaining home games dead rubbers. It's hard enough to persuade the good folk of Leeds to abandon their KFC Family Buckets in favour of a game of footy at the best of times, how the hell will they be encouraged through the turnstiles if the games are of no import?

And the games could yet be massive. Leeds just need to get on a roll. One win will bring two, two will spill in to three, three will flood into four - and before you know it, Leeds will be back on the shoulder of the pack and then in amongst them. The Watford game is the last match of the season and, with tension high, even that might be won should Leeds slip up in the preceding seven games.

Warnock must be exhausted. How else can you explain his reticence? So what that the game with Huddersfield was lost, that just means that a couple of games marked down previously for draws have to be won. What's the big bloody deal?

I would be talking up the club's prospects, not talking them down. The clarion call should go out to the fans to roar Leeds home to promotion, with prices reduced to a tenner for the remaining home fixtures and free entry to the first round of the Capital One Fan Cup for anybody attending all of the remaining home games.

Leeds can do it. No, Leeds should do it given their run in and the head to head games that their rivals face. But Leeds won't do it without self belief. Arses need to be collectively kicked, minds need to be refocused, Bob the Builder should stand side by side with Obama as board, manager, players and fans proclaim, "Yes We Can!"

  1. Yeah right!!!!!
    Not a prayer

Theres more chance of leyton orient winning the bid for the olympic stadium or scum winning the champions league this season than us reaching playoffs, other than byram weve had no consistancy and no one who has been a leader or stood out as a top players, theyre average middle off the road squad players,we need players who have leeds united running thru there veins, theyre probabley happy with what theyve got and know if we did get promoted they wouldnt be playing for a big team no more and would have to up root

    1. Show some faith! How will the players find belief if the fans are sobbing into their flat caps and kicking their whippets?

    2. Another one! Get your head up, push your chest out, spit out the bones of the KFC Family Bucket, and show some faith and a little bit of the Dunkirk spirit. If Leeds make it, I'll carry your defeatist post as a thread in its own right and say, See, THAT'S what's wrong with the modern day Leeds United!

  3. Stop making the same joke again and again you sad, pathetic little cunt. As per usual you are writing an 'article' about another article, in this instance a couple of lines from the YEP. Which your blog manages to make look the The Guardian, by the way. No other team worldwide has a following as dedicated, passionate and STRONG as the mighty Leeds United Football Club. We march on as one, together. United we are, the Mighty Whites.

  7. You know what, your making actual sense. Even though I can't see it happening, to give up now is not the Leeds way. So I guess if everyone at the club and the fans give it one last push- YOU NEVER KNOW....................

  8. And still you can't stop yourself blogging about Leeds United. Wonderful. Be careful 16.01,the last person to threaten armchair hammer received a phantom knock on their door at 11am from the imaginary police. Keep on caring and concerning yourself about Leeds United armchair. You know it makes sense.

  9. I think you are mistaking Yorkshire grit for some of the whingers you see on the YEP site. I, along with thousands of others, will be at Ipswich on Saturday cheering the lads on. If we get three points there we will be right back in the mix.
I, like you, cannot understand Mr Warnocks defeatist attitude. MOT

  16. when I asked you why you wrote 25 Leeds blogs to every 2 West Ham blogs you said it was because West Ham had no games coming up. Now despite the fact that Leeds are also not playing, you still bang on about them ad-nausiam.

You are a trifling little turd and a grotty little oik. Oh, and a stranger to the truth.

  17. You have written Leeds off since game 5 of the season. Now that the fans have abandoned them you are pissed off that they won't disagree with you.

  22. bubble blower, theres a true saying, if you havent got the right tools you cant do the job. sadly leeds havent got the right players to do the job. hopefully next season will be different. mot.

  23. I actually agree with you HF, we should be fighting till it's mathematically impossible to stay up and even then I'll still want the team to finish as high as possible even if NW is going to give the kids a chance. I was actually wondering do you intend on continuing to write about Leeds when NW walks away which is more or less a certainty? Agree or not with what you say, you make some valid points and I do always read it

  24. another rubbish article gave up reading when i got to the statement regarding only needing 73 points maybe even 71.............. last 2 seasons team in final playoff spot has been on 75 points, looking like it will be higher this time dont know where you get off that would leave us needing 23 pts out of 24 pts not looking very likely! Its not defeatism just more realistic than you bubble blowing dream fairies!!

  34. Judging by the concern hf has for our once great club, I'm guessing we're gonna be the 1st team to get the honour of a 2nd season devoted to us on TGGC. Do tell us hf, Who will be next in the cross hairs if we win the league, come second or are promoted via the play-offs next season, where will you direct your scorn and pent up hatred then?
Surely Spurs must require your special attention (sarcasm and hatred) for at least the next 6 years, afterall your team stole the OS from under their more deserving noses, so I'm guessing they're gonna have to pay for that pretty soon, or are you saving them for 2016?

    ReplyDelete
  35. What is there to say about Spurs? The club is well run, everything is going as planned and their fans don't make too big a noise about their success.

Arsenal were a more interesting story this season but I like Wenger and his style of football so I would hate to join his outing campaign.

Wolves and Blackburn have merited more attention than I have given them but both clubs have always left me cold. Who cares about what happens to either club outside of Wolverhampton and Blackburn?

Leeds and Watford have been the big stories because of the takeovers, one that hasn't worked and the other that has - disappointingly from my point of view because of the transfer policy adopted by Watford that I do not believe personally is in the spirit of the game.

So, I may spread my focus wider next season if I have the time, but I will certainly be keeping my devoted Leeds readership entertained.

  39. New owners are finance people - money is what they do - not football. If ( and it is "if" ) they want to appoint a manager who can steer the ship to promotion rather than making a quick financial killing by selling up - they should look at the guy sacked by Reading and back him up properly.

  40. Leeds have such a poor team. They are not ready togo up.

  41. To the angry fellow Leeds fans on this site. Sorry guys but let's not flatter ourselves, he writes about other clubs too, so lighten up and enjoy!
