Is Brighton's Poyet Leeds bound after rejecting Reading?

The fact that he even considered moving to Reading shows that Gus is getting itchy feet at Brighton. It would have been a stupid move with Reading favourites to slip out of the Premiership and the Seagulls an outside bet to replace them, so the decision not to swap the south coast for the M4 corridor was unsurprising.

Leeds, however, are a different kettle of woollen socks. Poyet was a popular figure with the fans when serving his time as assistant to Dennis not so Wise and, given the history of the club, would represent a step up on both Brighton and Reading.

The big questions centre on the nature of the present squad and the availability of funds to renew the playing personnel. Warnock has clogged up the squad with a sludge of mediocrity suited to playing in a crude, physical style; Poyet, on the other hand, likes his team to play with more poise, more grace, more sophistication, words likely to provoke a Warnock tirade of ridicule.

Without squad renewal, Poyet would be trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Morison, McCormack and Byram would fit his style of play, and he might be brave enough to bring through some of the promising kids, but he would almost certainly want half a dozen new players to turn the Warnock grimace into the Poyet smile; and would GFC Capital be willing and able to fund the acquisitions?

There may also be an issue with paying compensation to Brighton of course. If the Arab bank built on sand are really looking for a way out, they may see any expenditure as an erosion of profit or a deepening of debt.

Leeds fans should also be wary. Warnock is going because, for two consecutive seasons, he has failed to negotiate a way into the Play Offs and, come the end of the season, Poyet's record at Brighton may well look very similar to Old Big Gob's at Leeds. The Seagulls are a nearly team who often flatter to deceive.

So Poyet might fancy it and Leeds fans would welcome him but the stumbling block may be GFC Capital and the fact that Warnock may be given a say on who replaces him. After all, he doesn't want a seagull to shit all over his statue!

    2. No point hf, Allardyce prefers clubs where there's no real expectations. Hence his current position.

  8. At this point does it really matter? Never been a fan of the old fossile or his crap style of play. But lets face it these new owners have not got any cash their skint. Remember that Fukkin Arab stated we wont be spending crazy money, so he told a half truth and should of said Any!!
Even Larry could of got us up if money was available. So it makes sense to me to let Naylor have a go and bring all the hungry youngones with him, and simply say this is it lads nothing loose lets go make some Fresh History!!!!!!

    2. If HF is soooo boring why do a bunch of you who have a vocabulary limited to a handful of abusive words keep coming back for more? Though judging by the severe limitations of you brains boring things are challenging enough.
So fcuk off you sad cnuts and let us philosophise about the demise our beloved club in peace.

  14. Richard Naylor all the way for me. We need to accept we won't be challenging top 6 for a while so who better to come in and keep the ship steady, maybe bring on a few youngsters along the way.

As for Poyet, arguably the most overrated manager in the division. Working under the financial constraints Larry/Warnock did would probably send us down. Anyone who thinks Warnock 'failed' clearly doesn't anything about football, I'm afraid. Even our fearless author recently conceded this completely contradicting every post he has written all season (of course you 'predicted' it, mate).

And Di Canio? What an absolute joke of of a candidate. Right up there with that dick above suggestion that Gary Neville take on the job (no I didn't bite btw, just don't find you amusing).

Finally I'm afraid Adkins and McDermotts talents would be better served elsewhere.

  15. Very sensible article. I agree. They will either sell or put in a manager stupid enough to believe he can do miracles with donkeys

  21. we pay gus nearly three hundred quid a week so you would have to better that and from what i hear thats real big wages up north nowadays i guess thats why all the good looking girls have moved south and only the really thick ones who look like blokes have stuck around anyway you can have them back as we hate fake tits and cant bear their bloody accents besides every bloke in brighton is gay as you like and that suits gus and the way that we play you would be better off with a shut your eyes and hoof it type of manager that would suit your squad and current kick it and hope style

    1. Possibly the longest sentence I have ever seen, 0107 and notice you STILL didn't officially start or end it. You need to either keep off that class A or try and refrain from commenting when you're half way through a night out, son.
