Byram the second big test for new Leeds owners.

GFH Capital  failed the first test, parting with leading scorer Becchio before the January window closed, although many are arguing that his replacement Morison is a better all round player anyway. The really big test, it seems, will come this summer with Mancini apparently lining up an £8m bid for Byram, if he still has a job at Man City.

Now if Leeds are in the Prem, GFH Capital will probably hold out until January, but if Warnock's resurgent Whites miss out on promotion, will the Arab bank have the balls to turn an offer down? Byram has only recently signed a new contract but who knows what that contract includes - and a sensible agent will have negotiated a release clause should a bigger club come in for the young starlet, a club like Manchester City or even Norwich perhaps.

And £8m would pay back a great chunk of the £24m that the Arab bank are reputed to have paid for a controlling share in the club.

The pill could well be sugared Zaha style, with a season long loan agreed as part of the deal, but if Byram is as good as many think he is, then Leeds should move heaven and earth to hold on to him. As a West Ham fan, I have felt the pain when Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Glenn Johnson were all sold on at a massive profit for the clubs who stole them from Upton Park; and whilst £8m sounds good now, it could look like peanuts if Byram develops into England's next right back.

    1. at end of the day football is now big business 8million sounds good deal so sell but have a clause for percentage of any future sale and cash when he plays for england.

a good manager then uses ALL 8 million to bring in experienced old hands and quality remember how sgt wilko did it

    2. What a predictable response..." no brainer" indeed for Leeds fans short memory's and no brains... How much of 8 million will go back into the team? Answer sod all !! We'd by old veteran has been as replacement and one day we might get promoted with a team full old vets but.... We will come screaming back down again and the concept that clubs can yoyo is bull, list me the clubs who when relegated went straight back up again ??? Answer to this we need to keep the kids because they are the ones who will adapt to the premiership!!! Ask Howard wilkinson ...

  2. I wouldn't even consider less than 15-17m and I think that is an achievable offer.

  4. The Arabs will get all 24 millions back if they hang on him at least one more season, and in that season I think Leeds Utd. will win back there place in the Premiership.

    1. My god there's no hope !!! Wake up !!! I bet you though ken bates was a good chairman for years until people nailed it into your skull what the problem was!!! We sell Byram that money will not go to the first team and we will get player in half as good who will not adapt to the prem.... Short termist attitude which is similar to the way our messed up country is run !!!

  9. He is better than people think he is! A move away from leeds this summer would damage his career and halt his development. I truly believe in the next few years he will become England's #1 right back and make the place his own Gary Neville/Ashley cole (obviously left sided before you pick up on it hammers fan you wanker) style. Byram has already had bale, zaha, and pretty much the rest of the championship in his pocket. Don't you wish west ham could bring that quality through???? MOT

    1. Agree sitting in man city's bench rotting away at this key point in his development will be sporting suicide.... But his parents will have dollar signs in their eyes..

  10. It's easy to get carried away. However, in Byram's case I do believe he has the natural ability and temperament to play regularly for a top 5 Prem side. They don't come along too often and being home grown command a premium. If more than one of the top five sides become interested and he continues to improve then expect an offer Leeds could not refuse. Good luck to him I hope he plays at the highest level he can, in the meantime I hope he stays and continues to play his part in a promising Leeds side.

  11. ^^^ WELL SAID! Bale started as a defender & now look at him. Byram has more quality & is at an earlier stage in his career. Byram will probz do the same & switch positions in the future. Whoever manages us next will probz see that same potential & mix it up a lil bit. I think with the right support he will become a leeds utd legend. Keep him i reckon. For good. M.O.T (P.S. WET SPAM COULD ONLY DREAM OF A PLAYER WITH THE SAME QUALITIES AS BYRAM... ENJOY THE FUTURE SPAMMERS)

  12. Its no test at all. $ 8 million...you pull their hand off grabbing the money! Byram is playing well but so was Delph. Leeds are not a rich club and cant aford to turn down that sort of money. As long as its injected back into the squad then you take the money all day long and bring in 3 good players who will get us up where we want to be.

  13. we did a good deal on Bechio, swapped for a good player, unlike him

  14. take the money open the box, you are up and down like a yoyo trying to wind us up. Byram is quality we wont be able to refuse 8m, look at Parker where did he end up .............. at a bigger team.... but this tit for tat is boring now.

  15. Entirely agree with the majority of the above. 8 million could fund some quality promotion achieving players as well as bringing back the fans with attractive football. Morison's looked the goods on both accounts so far and a few more similar signings should see LU be serious challengers next season.

The real test will be to see if GFH re-invest (all) the money, if Byram is eventually sold, back into the squad.

  17. "GFH Capital failed the first test"
    Whose test is this?
Created by who and on what basis?

Looks like it is in the imagination of HF !

  18. You are correct this time. LUFC is a selling club - owned by a foreign bank which exists to make money and they haven't been doing that well lately. The temptation to sell and make a quick £8m will be a no brainer - especially if Moneybags City are willing to pay in full.

  19. LOL !!!!!!! Have you all forgoten James milner (1 million) in the end goes to Man City for 24

Lennon (1 million) appratnly worth over 20 now we sell players at all the wrong times the only deal we have done recently which i agreed with was delph.

  20. If we're serious about the Premier League, then we should hang on to Byram. GFH-C are getting more investment so money may not be a problem for them next season.
