Have West Ham just done QPR, Leeds, Leicester & co a massive favour?

Well until last night, Burnley were looking pretty damn undefeatable and were threatening to run away with the division, putting together a run reminiscent of Reading's two seasons back. But then along came West Ham and urinated in the Claret, and there is now every chance that the Burnley bubble will prematurely burst.

Those who try to suggest that West Ham were fortunate to win the game are missing the point. This was very much a second string West Ham side, made up of kids and reserves for the most part. Ruddock, Potts and Chambers are only just out of nappies and can only eat well mashed up solids, so it is no wonder Burnley had a few chances over the course of the game, but even with against a kindergarten defence, the mighty pairing of Ings and Vokes couldn't muster a goal between them.

And in the second half, following the introduction of Collison and Downing, followed by Nolan, West Ham totally bossed the game.

So, Burnley have suddenly been reminded what defeat tastes like, and with Treacy dismissed for taking out Collison as the Welshman steadied himself to knock the ball into an unguarded net, the Clarets are already carrying a hang over into the next match. And that match, at Millwall, now takes on huge significance because a second defeat on the trot would send alarm bells ringing around Turf Moor.

Burnley fans will argue that the Cup is an irrelevance but confidence is a brittle thing, and West Ham may have just snapped Burnley's last night. Which would be great news for all the Championship clubs currently trailing in the Clarets' wake.

  1. May have done QPR and Leicester a favour, but it's not really relevant for Leeds.

  2. Burnley changed their full midfield for this game, resting 5 players all together. Also treacy isn't a first choice player so this shouldn't really effect the league form?

  3. Is this the most deluded self obsessed website on the net. What a ridiculous article. Do some research. Treacy was only in last night because Arfield was rested...along with four other players. You had two shots on target last night ..read the stats. You got a penalty that wasn't, And how exactly will a loss against Millwall on Saturday change a trend that has been building since last Easter. Get a life. This is clearly only there to insight petty responses. Clearly not a serious football site.

  5. Absolute rubbish. Every man & his dog is reporting West Hams team changes last night but they have all forgot to mention that Burnley also played 5 fringe players themselves & yet totally dominated their money bags opponents for 45 minutes before losing out to a highly dubious penalty. Clearly the article was written by an anonymous Wovers fan.

  7. Burnley have had a great start, but if they get a few injuries, especially to the two strikers, then they will drop down the division.but its the same with most championship clubs.my team leeds included.infact,we have everyone fit,and we still cant find consistency.burnley cant keep winning, and they will hit a barren spell at some point.it will be interesting to see what u have to say if they beat millwall saturday....in the real world, the mighty whites have to beat yeovil saturday...one more point, when we beat scum in fa cup,did that mean,we had a better team than them.

  8. Why don't you do Leed, QPR, Burnely, Rotherham, Ebbs Fleet and anyone else who supports football a favour and get another job in another industry wasting other peoples time. Try gardening or single mums as your targeted audience, they "MIGHT" have enought time to read your utter bullsh1t... knob head

  11. I agree with an earlier post that this has little to do with Leeds other than mentioning their name to get more views.

That said you can feel the disappointment from the Burnley fans on here- they were clearly getting a bit cocky expecting another Premiership scalp and it didn't come. Sure they passed better but so have countless other teams that west ham have beaten in recent times. I wouldn't be surprised if they do have a little dip in form now- although probably still a good shout for promotion.

    1. "BURNLEY FULL STRENGTH" you say!
Actually 5 non-regulars i.e. half the outfield from the squad. Tells ya that your knowledge or research is poor.

  15. Funny, I was just saying the other day how I don't like West Ham because of the deluded arrogance of a portion of their fans. QED.

    1. Expend a few neurons (19.58) "Why" do you really think Leeds are in the title?

  17. I know a few hammers fans and they were amazed they had won the game after such a woeful display and considering the lack of west ham chances. Heaton didn't have a save to make, penalties aside. You are obviously deluded. With that kind of display you're a certain for relegation. I'm sure the Burnley fans will be waving at you on the way down.

  18. West ham won, I dont have a problem with that. but if I was a hammer I'd be a little worried that a premier league side came to a lower league looking to shut up shop. yeah luck wasn't with burnley but at least we tried to score and play to win. Unfortunately with the midfield on show we just couldn't break down a 6 man defence. ..you must be so proud.

  19. This is dreadful! Really, you think a cup defeat is going to stop their league form, you really have no idea. What a joke you really are to the footballing community.
