Leeds United Board Treat Bates Shoddily

Well I am flabbergasted! I returned from two months travelling, taking in Bulgaria, Dubai and Italy, expecting Nice Guy Brian to have completely revamped last year’s tepid Leeds squad, and what did I discover? The biggest news coming out of Leeds, apart from the narrow win over Brighton and the usual homophobic chanting of the ironically named Marching On Together fans, is that Master Bates, life President and saviour of the club, has been given the big heave ho. Outrageous.

True not every Leeds supporter is a fan of Papa Bates, but surely he deserved better than to be stabbed in the back without so much as a “Hello Ken, can you come into the office for a chat please?” They sacked him in a letter! This is the man who took the club through the pain barrier, into administration and the third tier of English football, and then part way back up again. You wouldn’t have stabbed the Grand Old Duke of York in the back part way through his journey would you?

Who can forget that epic giant killing defeat of Manchester United? Impossible without Bates. Who will forget last season’s giant killing triumph over Gareth Bale inspired Spurs? Impossible without Bates.  Who will forget the glory of winning promotion from the old Division Three? Impossible without Bates.

And what’s the guy’s final crime exactly? Signing a contract for a private jet to fly him from his home in Monaco to Leeds United games! How did GFH Capital expect the poor old sod to make the journey, on his Senior Citizen bus pass perhaps?

Some might say that the new owners of Leeds have demonstrated a complete lack of class, reneging on their promise to the man who trusted them to run the club he saved. The Bates Haters might like to consider the plight of Portsmouth (as many league titles as Leeds) and Coventry (more recent winners of the FA Cup than Leeds) when evaluating what the former owner did for their club. They might also reflect on the fact that it is not so many years ago that the now mighty Manchester City were in the third tier of English football. And Bates has followed the Sky Blue Print by selling to Arabs, albeit Arabs seemingly on their uppers.

But Ken knows exactly what GFH Capital are up to, courting popularity by slaying the big bad dragon whilst they try to hide the mess they have been making of running the club. Thatcher had the Argies, Blair the Iraqis and, if you believe The Dethroned Master Bates, GFH Capital are parading poor Ken’s bearded head around on a wooden stake to win the popular vote. It’s not right. It’s not just. It’s not fair.

Is it?

Don’t be surprised if Bates asks a Judge to decide. And how much might that cost Leeds exactly?

  2. Not surprise if it cost Leeds nothing, but it may cost the old fool quite a lot if he didn't succeed in the case coz Leeds can really do with lots of his money!

  8. Okay, first of all, "not every Leeds supporter was a fan of papa bates"? Understatement of the century, he sold off our best players and didn't incest a penny back in.
secondly, the win over Gareth balw inspired Tottenham was under gfh, bates was playing a very minimal role, and realistically he had fuck all influence over the man u win as well.
thirdly, "the mess gfh has been making"? They have been doing a standup job, already invested more than your beloved bates ever had, and are more communicative to the fans. What on earth makes you think they are making a mess of it?
i thank bates because i think he did save us from liquidation, but has done NOTHING for the club since then.
he is a selfish man, and the only difficulties i have seen GFH have so far is in cleaning up the financial ruin that bates left.

  9. Why didn't you buy a holiday ticket taking in a year long tour of the world ending in 2014... Then maybe we wouldn't have listen to shit stirring views on the plight of Leeds united...Every dog has his day and unfortunately it happened to be ken bates....

  10. As a hammers fan, what makes you think you know anything about the inner workings of a different club? Its always puzzled me.
I'm guessing the reason you write about Leeds is you get more hits as they are a more well supported club. But surely that's just a sad commentary on your own club, and a bit of a betrayal?

  11. Leeds to score 6 in a league match?

    5/1 with SB......

Worth sticking a kg of GV on that????

  12. Let's not get carried away!
We got the winner in the 94th min, by hoofing the ball Warnock style, then handling it!!!
all this after a desperate save from Kenny!

  13. u fool...What about Melvyn Levi who was handed the exact same treatment that Bates has just received. Levi left millions in LUFC to keep the club going when Bates took over...2 weeks later Bates diluted Levis shares and out he went. What goes around comes around. Good riddens to Bates.

  14. Two things - firstly, he saved us TWICE. Secondly, if he asks a Judge to decide, he'll have to gamble his own money, not the club's, so that may not happen.

Shame there's not enough going on at WHUFC to keep you occupied. New season same old shite.

  24. What happened to picking another club for the new season? here's a novel ideas, why not write about Wet Spam you may not be as wide of the mark as you normally are with your stories and thoughts on LUFC. You have become boring and predictable!!!!

  25. I think most of our fans hoped you'd gone for good. It's baffling why you're so interested in our club. Seriously, why are you so interested in a club you don't support?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good piece on the Brighton game, then you lower yourself with this bullshit article. Everyone in football knows what Bates is like. They were waiting for the first opportunity to oust him and rightly so. The man had ruined the club, its about time we got it back.

  27. Why are you doin this again? I find it hard to believe that in the 2 months you were 'travelling' you couldn't have sat for 5 minutes and written one of your boring blogs.more likely is you have been back in London visiting mama reflecting on your failed marriage to the Romanian gypsy woman.u don't have much to write about any more,Bates gone, warnock gone, qpr will do well this season and so will watford.but i expecT you will still wRITE YOur bollocks cos you get off on trying wind ppl up from the comfort of your armchair in dirty Bucharest. Crack on mate...

Unfortunately as a Leeds fan I am truly disappointed that some Leeds fan's judging by the comments, don't appear to understand Irony, but you certainly do.

  32. But gfh are doing a good job running the club hf.Bates is just bitter.a private jet for the club president when cash flow is a problem at lufc is just ridiculous! I predict another bore of a season for west ham as big Sam targets 17th place

  34. We don't know who you are. We don't know what you want. If you are looking for a new club, we can tell you, your not fucking welcome. But what we do have are a very particular set of skills; skills we have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make us a nightmare for people like you. If you let this go now, that'll be the end of it. We will not look for you, we will not pursue you. But if you don't, we will look for you, we will find you, and we will kill you.

  35. It must be frustrating seeing Leeds released from their imprisonment by a property developer who looks just after himself. He doesn't care about his locality. Hence the Caymans, Nevis and Monaco. As in the normality of a property developer, he only sees one thing. His gain.
Why was he booted off the Wembley project? These are signs that show you how he is perceived.
The present board have done the right thing. We need team workers not self appointed know alls.
I'm sure you would be horrified if he took over West Ham, if you are a West Ham fan.
He won nothing with Leeds because of his inability to understand how to delegate responsibilties. He did the same at Chelsea.
As a Leeds supporter I expect them to get back in to silverware. I have seen them win the Title in three different decades. Football fans see this. Yes it's a habit that irritates fans of teams like West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle.
Leeds will win again. Maybe not this year or next, but it's in the making now our shackles are off.

  46. Haha been a touring Europe? yeah right we all know you've been staying at one of her Majesty's hotels.

your obviously a big Bates fan, lets just hope he pitches up at west ham next and does an even bigger number (sorry better job) on them than he did at Leeds.

Leeds football fans being homophobic? surely not!! was at the match on Saturday and heard no homophobic chanting, though apparently some fans were abused after the game. If this was the case I would like to apologise to any Brighton fans (whether they are gay or not) for any abuse they received.

  47. Personally I thought the actions of GFH werea cheap stunt and I despair of fellow Leeds fans for allowing their disapproval of Bates to cloud their judgement on this issue. It would have been in the club's best interests - for the sake of checks and balances - to keep Bates as President.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Not your best effort. 6/10.

Too predictably "pro Bates" in order to get us Leeds fans to bite. A bit lazy really.

I look forward to you putting a bit more thought into your future articles since I do normally enjoy reading them!

  51. it always makes me laugh how people fall into this guys trap. It's a wind up, he's pathetic 'blog' is an attempt to attract attention. I can't believe I am wasting keystrokes on this person. He's likely to harbor feelings of inadequacy and is probably sexually repressed, he is likely to crave attention and this probably stems from very troubled childhood where he felt isolated. The best therapy is not to indulge him, simply ignore him, help him to move on.
