Is Redknapp simply digging the QPR grave deeper?

Apart from Tottenham, where Levy kept him on a very short leash, Redknapp has a history of leaving clubs in a bigger mess than when he joined them, with the sort of financial headaches that saw Woolworths disappear from the High Street. Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, West Ham - they all went bust or were close to going bust after Redknapp's wheeler dealing antics.

And he's up to his old tricks again. How much did he spend guiding QPR to relegation last season? And how much is he now spending in his bid to get them back up again?

Of course, Sparkless Hughes has to take his share of the blame for QPR going down, but Redknapp had more than enough time to save them, and was given huge financial backing from Fernandes. But the Hula Hoops went down with a whimper regardless, maintaining relegation form throughout 'Arry's time at the club.

And Fernandes still seems blind to what is going on. The latest move for Parker is so, so typical of 'Arry and of QPR's folly under the misguided Malaysian owner. The guy was never brilliant and is clearly on a downward slide. Injuries have blighted his career, and there are many who believe that the last one took its toll permanently. And anyway, Parker, even at his best, would not transform a team like QPR in the Championship.

Yes the guy runs around a lot and yes he gives you 100% in terms of effort, but he doesn't hurt the opposition and rarely, if ever, changes the course of a game. To gauge his effectiveness, just look where West Ham finished in what most would concur was Parker's best ever season - rock bottom! Great!

God knows how much QPR will be paying him in wages and you have to wonder what will happen if promotion is not achieved and Financial Fair Play cuts in. And if QPR do win promotion, what use will Parker be in the Prem? If he was good enough still, QPR wouldn't stand a chance of signing him whilst in the Championship. So why has he been offered a three and a half year contract?

The answer to that is simple. Parker's agent negotiated a crazy 5 year deal with West Ham, which secured him a 4 year contract at Spurs, which now has shrunk down to three years, with a half year bonus to compensate for giving up on his World Cup dream. Can anybody see Parker playing in his all effort style when he is 36? No chance!

So, in 12 months time QPR will be paying a fortune to a shot Parker and will have a host of disaffected players returning to the club after their loan deals have expired. If still in the Championship, QPR will be severely penalised under the FFP rules; and if in the Prem will have a squad that has already been shown to be inadequate. It doesn't bode well, does it?

But 'Arry won't care - he will walk away considerably wealthier than when he joined.

  3. Not a clue have you! Harry spent money on samba and got it back again, Remy is at Newcastle with permanent option if we do nit get promoted. Townsend was On loan and jenas arrived on a free so where is the all the money he spent. Is it because qpr have it spend and your jealous! Secondly, our first 11 that got relegated last season is totally different to this season, do some research. Green, Simpson, yun suck young, Dunne when he gets fit, Barton, faurlin, Henry, Johnson and Austin. Your obviously blogging for attention with no real facts and to spit at a former west ham player in Parker. Whoever said Parker was an attacking midfielder, he is a out and out defensive midfielder who covers a lot of ground, who will give his absolute all for his club, that's why spurs signed him and that's why hull, Fulham and qpr want him. Please stop pouring out this utter tosh that proves you have no clue what you are talking about and that you are very very bitter indeed.

  4. Oh....words fail me with you, dear boy. Acceptance is the first stage of the healing process. I want you to be healed, bless you. Tony Fernandez chose us, not WHU. Rob Green chose us, not WHU. The fact that we are shocking bears no influence on the fact that you are hurting, and your anger and pain is dis (or 'mis') placed onto us poor suffering Hoops. Let's let the football do the talking shall we, as I feel we have a chance to recover last seasons horror show. However, I will still read your cobblers with a smirk, but take no pleasure in your pain. One love.......you RRRRRRRRRRR'sssss.

  6. "God knows how much QPR will be paying him in wages"

More to the point, you don't know. So this whole stupid article is built on guesswork.
Have you had a look at the players offloaded by QPR this summer? Ferdinand, Taarabt, Remy, Bosingwa, Park, Samba, Derry, Ben Haim, Bothroyd, Campbell, Mackie and Hulse have all left. Granero, Cesar, Mbia may well follow before the window shuts. yet you think Scott Parker's wages represent foolhardy spending?

Back to the drawing board, mate.

  7. Harry is spending very little. He got most of the maney for Samba and most of the players coming in were for free. We spent about 4m for Austin and 1m for Henry. So where is he spending loads of money. Most of our top earners have left for a year so we can have them back if we get promoted and if not sell them. So worry about your own club buying a donkey upfront who is once again injured and can't start the season.

  8. I've never seen the sense in this argument. Since when has a manager been responsible for a club's finances? If he is asking a chairman or Chief Exec for a player they can't afford, it's their responsibility to tell him, isn't it?

I'm a Pompey fan, by the way, and I greatly appreciate the amazing job he did. Our mess was caused by a lot of foreign predators attracted by the easy-pickings of silly Premier League money

  16. When fans sing "we're fine, we're minted", I dispair. It isn't about the ability of the current suggar daddy to sign the cheques. It is about the combination of the current sugar daddy to CONTINUE to be able to sign the cheques (Yeung, Birmingham; Gaydamak, Portsmouth) and the debt to be low enough for the next sugar daddy to subsume as part of the purchase price (I can't wait to see what happens when Ambramovich comes to sell)
