Poor McDermott learning how fickle the Leeds United flock can be

Today's reading is Psalm 23

The McDermott is our shepherd; we shall not lack. He makes us to lie down in green pastures: he leads us beside the still waters of the Aire. He restores Revie's soul: he leads us in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of the Championship, we will fear no evil: for you are with us; your tactics and your coaching staff they comfort us. You prepare a team before us in the presence of our enemies: you anoint our heads with lager; our cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life: and we will not dwell in the house of the Championship forever.

So sayeth the godly and the righteous. But sadly, far too many of the Leeds fans have as much stomach for adversity as the Israelites who, mystified by the ways of Moses, bleated complaints like lost sheep when wandering in the desert. So what that McDermott has delivered manna in the form of McCormack, one home defeat has unleashed uncertainty like a plague of locusts!

Look at that self anointed soothsayer Rob Atkinson who, after one narrow defeat, is already pointing the finger at the Leeds United board even though they have delivered the club from the clutches of Shatan, and cluttering up the Leeds United News Now board with jealous articles about bigger clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool. With supporters like this, it's little wonder only 23,000 turned up for a crucial game against QPR.

Cue the explanations that it was on TV and it was a category A game and all that crap. This game was vital. McDermott and the team needed a full house, roaring the side on, but instead the faithless turned their backs on the club and flocked to the pubs instead, watching the game for nout and saving up their pennies for their nightly KFC Family Bucket.

Last season I asked if the Leeds fans deserved a successful sports team after the denizens of the city failed to fill Headingly for a test match, even as Root and Bairstow were flying the Yorkshire flag superbly, and the pathetic gate for the QPR game sadly makes my point again. Did the Liverpool fans abandon their club last season for televised games as the team struggled? Do Newcastle fans stay away from the ground when their games are on the box? Was the Emirates half empty today?

The Reverend will preach another sermon from his pulpit this week, but sadly far too many of the so called faithful will turn a deaf ear and moan in the pews, passing the collection plate swiftly without donating a single penny.

  1. Why link this to psalms from the bible? Why not quote something from the Koran? Why do you hate Muslims so much? You should be ashamed of yourself. I now issue a fatwah on behalf of all Muslims. GOD IS GREAT

  6. We've only lost one match 1-0 to the best team in the Championship, why be so negative ?

  7. I have to agree. It was a very bad gate. Just imagine if Leeds hadn´t started well this season, the gate could have been 18,000 which is about the amount of hard core(from leeds)fans the club has at the moment.

  8. Have u been drinking? is this post purely for internet hits?...... what a load of rubbish.

  9. Less than 700 fans from QPR !! Now that's a club I assume you think deserve a quick return to the Premiership for their 'loyal' fanbase Focus on a club local to you instead of one many miles away.

  10. Newcastle fans certainly deserted their team in a 3 season stay in the 2nd division. Liverpool fans still hit the heights in attendances but they are still a serious force in the Premier. Leeds fans are battered and fed up. BM is not daft, nor are Leeds fans, We are not going up this year. Our away support is still amongst the best in the country - the real test. But until he has time to make his changes the team is still essentially warnock`s.
I love your column. I always read it. The truth does hurt! But don`t get carried away thinking all fans support their clubs when they are in the crap and we have been in the crap for a long long time.

  12. The very fact that you sit in your miserable bedroom so envious all your jealous thoughts are with another club 200 miles away speaks far louder than you have ever written. You have more to say about Leeds than most Leeds Fans. Thats what it's like to be a big club

  16. I was under the impression that the 23 psalm is a Psalm of David and has got nothing to do with Moses. Get your facts straight... both the biblical and the footballing

    1. LOL I know my facts. I refer to Moses in the article. As for David, he is Dawud in the Quran. If you knew anything, you would know that the Quran endorses The Old Testament, and indeed much of the New Testament. The divergence is around the claim that Jesus is the Son of God. Islam does not accept this because it implies that there is a Mrs God and that Allah had sex.

      Try this:

Almighty Allah declared: So they routed them by Allah's Leave and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him (David) the kingdom (after the death of Saul and Samuel) and wisdom, and taught him of that which He willed. And if Allah did not check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full of mischief. But Allah is full of Bounty to the Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exist). (Ch 2:251 Quran).

2022, no, didn't go to Titan Park today actually. Lovely meal out in an eatery about half a mile from the park though. And no, I didn't dine alone, which is a shame in some ways because the waitress was cute.

  22. It's sadly true, far more Leeds United fans ( who purport to be the best fans in the country) should get to the ground to support our team. I am of little doubt that if we had had a 30,000 plus crowd against QPR , we would have played with far more confidence and vigour and would not have lost.Big home crowds help the team ; it works. Leeds is a one club, big city but the fans are ( too often) a BIG let down. The sad hammer of this blog normally writes utter rubbish to try to provoke responses ;on this occasion however he/she/it is spot on but remains however a prize gobshite.

    1. Fine if you genuinely can't afford to go fine , no need to explain, but those who can afford it and there have been full crowds on many occasions before can ; these are the people I am referring to who disappoint : good luck in your attempts to escape from what you purport to be miserable poverty-stricken lives lol

Prediction 2 years from now: you've grown up and realised there's more to life than walking off about being a Leeds fan, West Ham get relegated never to return, and Leeds do what they did last time we went up, storm the top division and win it in 2016, WACCOE

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes like I said hf last season u was 4 games away from relegation getting beat by teams like stoke is not gonna help u in your battle to stay up this season better hope Carroll comes fire on all 4 cylinders or you will be in big trouble come may!

  28. I must concede that the attendance yesterday was sadly disappointing, however we still have the highest "average" home attendance, narrowly eclipsing Brighton.
I agree with the remark about the soothsayer (R.A.) he his indeed cluttering up the News Now board with his childhood memories of the Revie era. The poor old man is stuck in a timewarp!
Getting back to football lets hope BM gets the elusive winger we need and re-considers the role of Varney and Hunt....??
and remember "Blasphemy" is only for believers.....

  46. So trying to make sense of this stupid blog it seems like it was written as either..

    1) an opportunity for you to prove you know more about Religion than Football or
    2) a chance to have a snip at Rob Atkinson in your ongoing inter blog handbag fights..

or I guess I shouldn't be trying to make sense of it at all as basically all your blogs are just a wind up.

How about writing a blog about how useless you are at predicting results and that the form of your own Team is showing strong signs they will be making a return to Second Tier Titans next season

  47. Attention seeking hypocritical Southern Troll who has the nerve to mention the attendance figures at Elland Road when he doesn't even bother to add to the figures at his own teams home games, but has no problem attending cricket matches.

    1. No, It's not ok with me (09.20) considering our last home match home before this one was the 17th Aug and our next one is in three weeks time (21st Sept) the attendance was pathetic.
I've heard excuses like Sky were there, and QPR only brought 700, not withstanding that, it is still embarrassing. After all, we were unbeaten going into the match with a chance to go temporarily top! To paraphrase (22.50) it is definitely BOLLOX!!

  53. Try having Lampard, Carrick, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson, Defoe, Rio Ferdinand all sold. How about us losing dean ashton to injury, tevez due to a dodgy deal, Demba ba cuz hes a mercenary. I think the amount of players we have lost outweighs yours. We had years of terry brown selling our players and then almost going in to liquidation under new ownership, and under more new ownership finally steadying our club. West Ham fans still filled upton park through all of that and loads of relegation battles year after year
