Leeds United can't shake off the Curse of the Warnock

So deadline day has passed and the Reverend's prayers have not been answered. He was eager to add to the squad but with the fans staying away from Elland Road in their tens of thousands, GHF Capital did their sums and decided that a £15m wage bill was more than enough, thank you very much. To buy, Reverend Brian had to sell, but as it turned out, he couldn't even give Warnock's old nags away!

They say you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but clubs have seen enough of the likes of Norris, Hell Hadji and Drury to know that there's only one place they should be heading, and that's the knacker's yard.

The trouble is, Warnock mopped up any old seepage going and the stains are indelible. The contracts are long and the wages are inflated. That's why Warnock Junior opted for the Championship last season rather than throw in his lot with West Ham. Leeds fans gloated, but West Ham fans were relieved the club decided not to saddle itself with yet another player in the twilight of his career.

So the Reverend has to muddle along with what he has got, unless a loan player or two becomes available and the club holding their contracts are willing to pay the bulk of their wages whilst allowing Leeds to select them.

That promotion dream drifted a little further out of reach at midnight last night.

  1. It is a crying shame why we can't shake you off too, WANKER!

  3. How would you know wot West Ham fans are relieved about? They ignore you! That is apart from your fake "Leeds fan" friend Jack, who more than likely is just yourself adopting another one of your many self-appraising pseudonyms.

    See through Southern Troll!

PS. Hope you're ok with this "Leeds fan" Jack? lol

  4. You seem to have lost your knack for coming up with cheap wind-ups.

Your last few Leeds-related blogs have just been an exercise in stating the bleedin' obvious, and have hardly annoyed me at all.

    I'm disappointed...

  5. It's true to say Leeds aren't really in the automatic promotion race but then it's not like West Ham despite all their tip top big name deadline day signings are going to win the Champions League or the Europa League or the Premier League or the FA cup or the league cup or finish in the top half of the table etc. etc, and worst of all you still have to pretend not to hate Karen Pescisol-Brady

  6. I know you're a Hammer but your posts make me smile and appear to be less inflammatory than in the past. BM is suffering on the back of Colin's ineptitude in the tfr market. There is at least half a team to get shut of before we can move forward and reduce the wage bill. You know it, we know it and GFH know it.

  7. We Leeds fans are used to disappointing transfer windows, and although GFH have allowed BMcD to bring in four players we needed 6 or 7. At least McCormack, who although not a prolific striker is the best we currently have, has not been sold and more importantly our Player of the Year Sam Byram has not been sold. Had Bates still been in charge both those players would have gone and we would no doubt have been heading back to League One!

  8. Neil Warnock darkened the doorway/dressing room at LUFC. He should never have been employed at LUFC, he HATES LUFC and signed a number of toss pots (to quote him) in his effort to destroy the club.An example of his desire for LUFC to fail is highlighted by the loan signing of Ross Barkly whom he played once and never again even though Barkly was man of the match and has now been selected for the England squad!!!!

  9. Slightly dwindled maybe.. But on a positive note Sam byram shined yesterday as continues his comeback ...Dawson and mowatt also caught the eye.. All together ithats like 3 new signing so there's every reason to keep the faith

  11. seriously man, what is wrong with you....there are people who can help you know. Im actually starting to feel a little sorry for you. get a hobby or something,i realize you have no friends to play with but you could get an imaginary one. Just stop this (frankly embarrassing) obsession you have. Honestly, no joking its sad

  12. You seem obsessed with the missing Leeds supporters. 33,000 plus against Brighton followed by two crowds of 23,000 plus for lunch-time, live kick offs in August. Sounds ok to me--remind me who in this division is doing better

118 years and they smash all records with a nearly 35k average record. It's nowt to be too cocky about really. Just havin' a dig while can. When the roles are reversed there will be no HAmmersfan. Mark my words.

  14. Poor artical, I would suggest a Hammers fan concentrated on writing about his own team than a team he clearly know's nothing about

  15. we will still finish in the playoffs even with this squad.so im not worried.it would have been nice to get a few more players but if we dont have any more money, never mind.

    onwards and upwards

  16. Thanks for your concern. Now run and along and worry about your own team.

  18. Jeez man - give it up. Even the excitement you used to generate from your negative comments which seem to fuel your posts - has now dried up so what is the point in your life where you need to keep posting boring posts...
Move on lad - it's boring now, no Leeds fan is bothered anymore

  19. With leeds being the third biggest city in the country, their crowds are small liverpool three clubs in the city, far better supported.

    1. Suggest you get your Collins Atlas out mate, and on your way to London, go via Manchester and Birmingham.
Although we are indeed the FIFTH largest city, we also have a top class Rugby League team, and a major cricketing venue which hosts Yorkshire C.C. who are incidentally top of the league! Another factor is, there's nothing else to do in Liverpool, sadly just another run down Port city.

    2. I assume you mean Tranmere. By that logic Bradford, Halifax & Huddersfield are all in the same city as Leeds. You pillock.

  21. I can't understand why people get upset by what you say. As a Leeds supporter I agree with what you say. We are only just getting rid of Grayson's has beens although we still have Pugh (£10k per week?).
Of course the worst thing that Warnock did (although many would blame Bates) was to upset and then sell the only player we had who could score goals on a regular basis for in effect £200k.

  22. Recovery from the abyss is taking place in steps. We have stopped acting like a small town selling club. We are rid of Bates. We don't sign clapped out journeymen. The manager is good and probably has his best years still to come. There is deadwood - as at most clubs but it will gradually be eliminated. There is now some hope in the club. How did you get on at home to Stoke ? Did you think that was a winnable game?

  23. Entirely agree with you about Warnock junior. He wasn't needed when he was signed - we already had a left back (White) that had more than coped previously with both Lennon and Bale - and he has done nothing to justify his presence in our colours. He is very slow and too often caught out of position. He can tackle, if he gets to his man in time, but once beaten, he can't get back. He does have a good one footed (left) kicking technique, but his delivery is patchy, and he tends to take rhe safe option. He offers nothing going forward. But as an old pro he is shrewd enough to shape up to look better than he is. White by contrast is an innocent - and gets slaughtered for it. Good work Sam Allardyce in not signing this Warnock.

  24. "Listen" here Quietman, (13.50) is spot on and as you correctly stated it is a free country! Hence, everyone is entitled to their opinions...why don't you go read the "soothsayers"(RA) blog and wallow in the triumphs of half a century ago!
It's 2013 mate, get real, take your blinkers off...we haven't been in the Premiership for over a decade. At least HF's blog provides some objectivity in the current climate, and the satirical way it is written provides some enjoyment for fans of all clubs.

    1. Jack I think uve got urself a little admirer my love, in the form of HF! I know he isn't posting what everyone is replying to your comments!? HF is quite selective anyway with what he puts up, likes to put up posts of people slagging him off to make Leeds look bad but can't reply to a simple question of how he thinks west ham will do in there next game

    2. (06.26) Are you really bothered about how West Ham perform in their next game? I'm not. It doesn't help Leeds, maybe next season I will....
