McDermott in maze of blind alleys as Leeds struggle to recruit

Anybody still remember the optimism when McDermott arrived and there was all that positive talk about getting players in early? Well May has passed, and nothing has happened. And now Nice Guy Brian is warning that June might be a "quiet month" too!

Of course, the phone is "hot", but it sounds like agents are ringing Leeds, trying to offload players clubs don't want, rather than McDermott chasing down players he needs, and from what McDermott is saying, he is finding it all just a bit of a pain in the arse. At Reading somebody handled all this for him you see; now the buck stops with him, and a shortage of bucks is probably the problem.

Let's face it, if Leeds offered the right money, players would jump at the opportunity of joining. It is a biggish club with a biggish fan base after all. And mid table last season is a reasonable platform to build from with promotion to the Prem in mind.

Dear God, Dark Satanic Mills has all but begged Leeds to sign him, but still there is no progress, with presumably the transfer fee and wage demands stalling the deal. But we are only talking a million quid, and a club of Leeds United's stature shouldn't be worried about peanuts like that.

It all has a very familiar ring about it; although, to be fair to the Warnock and Master Bates, there was a steady stream of players into the squad last transfer window; albeit they weren't much cop for the most part, with Leeds recruiting from relegated and mid table teams.  Leeds fans were delighted with the signing of every Joe Ordinary, nevertheless, and expressed huge indignation when I pointed out how crap they were. So maybe there is some cherry picking going on this time around. Maybe.

The good news is that Byram hasn't left, but he and Lees are away on England duty so nothing will happen until they have been assessed with the three lions on their chests.

It's all looking like a long, frustrating summer for Leeds fans already.

Do you really think a company like GFHC would pay millions of pounds and let Bates have the final say on THEIR club......he is chairman only in name until end of the month dick wad!

  4. Why state the obvious. B mcd is hardly going to come out and say we havent a pot to piss in and 60% of our playin staff isnt good enough for championship. Positivity is all we have to go on. I reckon thats what kept us up last year. Why do always feel the need to write bout lufc and not your own. Surely theres somethin exciting goin on in the east end. Fuck urself! MOT

  5. A little early to be dosing out the negative vibes I think. The window opens on July 1st and while deals can be done in the background it is often a long drawn out process for some, particularly if they are "targets" as opposed to "offloads".

I'm sure your post is meant to grab attention by its one liners such as "looking like a long, frustrating summer for Leeds fans already", since when has it ever been anything different. Not for some time. The post may have some credence if there are no changes either in or out by the time the squad leaves for Slovenia. Until then it is just a patient (or impatient for some) waiting game to see what materialises.

  6. A biggish club with a biggish support!! are you on drugs, we are a massive club with massive support, lets give McDermott time, I am sure he will bring in the right players and give us a great shot at promotion

  7. The funny thing is that "article" could have been written about any one of the football league or premiership sides.
Every team wants to do business early but with the manager merry go round happening and various investors getting involved with teams it was always going to be a long summer.
I guess MacD has just got to quit making all the standard footballing clichés to stop numptys like you "reporting" on them.
Anyway, looking forward to your next post on how next year should be Leeds' season, or we have had some more investment made, or this time next week we still haven't made a signing, and of course to include some reference on our managers personality

  8. What a brainless article. I'm fed up with all the doom & gloom merchants that do nothing to bring unity to our great club by coming out with this crap.

  9. Biggish club, with a biggish fanbase.i think you mean massive club, and massive fanbase cockney boy.its common knowledge, that most signings, come in june,or even july, when players and agents, come back off thete holls.lets just see who we bring in before u start jumping the gun.5 or 6 quality players hopefully.

  10. I'm fed up of all the doom & gloom merchants that constantly run down our great club. Coming out with brainless articles like the one above really annoys me. If you look around the leagues, there's not much business being conducted at the moment. If you actually bother to listen to what BM says, you will see that there is progress on the transfer front, albeit behind the scenes.

  11. As annoying as these posts can be, they're usually spot on. It's realism that we Leeds fans don't like to accept sometimes.

    1. Usually spot on? This idiot reads crap on the press and then re wrights it in an attempt to look like hes in the know. Read his article again where he talks about agents ringing McDermott and not McDermott chasing players. How the hell would this prat who claims he doesn't even live in the uk know what is happening at Elland road? And you Mr Miller claim "Its realism that we Leeds fans don't like to accept sometimes" Wheres the "realism" in any of this attention seeking idiots blogs? Hes just an ill informed twat with no friends and too much time on his hands.

  19. Meanwhile at west ham, rumours abound regarding the clubs latest galactico signing after Kaka was allegedly seen in the upton park dressing room provoking much excitement in the Argos jewellry counter queue. A local wheeler dealer on his way to sign on asked if someone could watch over his car lot for 5mins while he was away and said he would talk about Kaka when he returned. Another ducker and diver said " i can't faaking believe it,i was wiv er indoors when i erd we was getting kaka and you cudda knocked me dahn wiv a fevva. I said to her no need to go aht on the game tonight dahling i'm opening a bottle of ale to celebrate". Unfortunately club cleaner Mary "faaking" Reid quashed the hopes of all west ham supporters who were praying for a superstar of the calibre of Nolan and O brien when she confirmed that although Kaka had indeed been spotted in the west ham dressing room it had been left on the floor by some Brighton trialists.

  27. Does everyone realise that the transfer window hasnt opened yet? Yes we xcan line up some transfers, but to be honest no agent or player will commit until the window is properly open and see what options are available.

Even the Hammers main target Carroll wont commit as there may be better offers coming in. I also dont expect us to spend massive ammounts to get those players in. I just want the right p[layers in te right positions.

  32. It is a love/hate relationship between me and your blog, somewhat of a endearment in my heart but my head comes with great animosity. I respect that this whole thing must come to great pleasure and enjoyment but sometimes you've got to calm yourself son! I enjoy reading about what stupid hypocrites my fan base has to offer and realising how much nonsensical their mindless little heads are made of. I know that the summer transfer speculation involving Leeds is significantly higher than many clubs and I also know that we are unlikely to bring in any players of such substantiality but my optimism keeps me going, keeps me believing, and keeps me hoping and I'm sure that when it comes to rumour mill with your sad, little club you will be also hoping to believe what you have read. I'm not full of injudiciousness like most of the above, and quite forthrightly, I haven't got an empty space between my ears!
