QPR Keeper Green Repays Redknapp's Faith

Well that was highly predictable wasn't it? Green's clanger against West Bromwich Albion was a true classic, comparable with his monumental gaff against the USA.

Redknapp's attempts to absolve his panic stricken keeper by blaming the officials are understandable but pitiful. Just watch Green. He chooses to step back into his own goal and is trying to save the ball from behind the line as the misdirected header loops over a crowd of players and beneath the bar. Even then he could have punched the ball - but instead he flapped at it like a girl with a sprained wrist. It was truly, truly pathetic.

For years some of us have argued that Green is, at best, an average keeper. Yes he is a great shot stopper but as an all round keeper, he is woeful. Under crosses he is hopeless. His kicking is poor. His positioning at free kicks is, at best, questionable. And his command of his six yard box is non existent.

Redknapp has backed the wrong horse by handing the gloves to Green ahead of Cesar. If he reverses that decision now, he will destroy the confidence of England's 666 totally. It's a terrible conundrum but 'Arry must surely put the club ahead of Green, who even allowing for his shot stopping, is a liability. Relegated with Norwich and West Ham, Butterfingered Rob is on course for a most unfortunate hat-trick!

  1. You are quite pathetic. It is as clear a foul as you can ever call, the literal definition in the rule book of obstruction. Cesar has been injured for 6 weeks. Stop ignoring reality.

  2. Tell me, why did Green step backwards rather than to the left or right?

    1. Was pushed backwards, did not step backwards, there are a list of keepers who without being fouled have made far worse errors this season.Perhaps you as should the ref study the rules of the game, before you are qualified to offer opinions on football. Joe Hart this weekend lets a ball bounce under his hand, not his first error this season, yet does not get a mention. Watch every game every week, then come to informed conclusions.

    2. He was not pushed backwards. Watch again. He chose to step backwards when a forward move was blocked. Do I sing Hart's praises here? Don't think so. His was a terrible error against Blunderland and his performance against Sweeden was abysmal.

  3. Firstly he didn't move left or right as he had correctly positioned himself underneath the line of the ball, as all good goalkeepers do. Secondly( for the life of me I cannot understand why you didn't notice this)he was pushed backwards, quite different to stepping backwards.

    1. Watch it again. First of all, he takes his position BEFORE Hall connects with the ball. Secondly, have you tried pushing a six foot plus guy? It needs some force and cannot be done with your back turned to him, standing still! Get the Hoola Hoops out of your eyes and fit contact lenses!

  4. 1. Who is Hall?
    2. I've looked at this a few times. Fortune digs his feet in and pushes backwards into Rob Green. He wouldn't look out of place in an armchair at this point, if he wasn't leaning on Green, he'd simply fall over.
    3. At the same time as Fortune pushes backwards, Rob Green attempts to jump and tip the ball over the bar. Due to the fact he is pushed back, he cannot reach the ball and ends up palming it in the goal.
    4. All the West Brom players celebrate the goal, except (surprise surprise) Fortune, who holds his hands palms out in the ' I never touched him guv, honest' guilty pose

  5. Oops, typo, had Hall on my mind, meant Hill; but according to the BBC report it was Traore anyway. Shearer and Lawrenson blamed Green and I agree with them. Watch again. Or don't. Keep faith with Green. You will go down if you do!

  6. Green was totally at fault.... it was one of the worse errors I've ever seen, have to say I laughed my socks off, and of course he wasn't pushed - don't be so bloody silly.
