Leeds United Wave Goodbye To Automatic Promotion At Hull

So the charge has turned into a bit of a damp squib - rather like the big take over. With Warnock admitting that Leeds can't compete financially with Leicester City even after the take over by GFH Capital, it looks as if there will be no major investments in the team this January. And the last two games have shown that without investment in the squad, Leeds are going nowhere this season - unless they steal up via the playoffs.

The stats from today's game make shocking reading: Hull had 20 shots on goal to Leeds' 4; Hull were on target 11 times and Leeds just once; and Hull had a whopping 65% of the possession. This wasn't just a defeat, it was a tonking.

Mind you, Old Big Gob seems to have accepted defeat before the game kicked off. How else can you explain the decision to leave Bechio on the bench? Sure a booking would have secured a suspension, but given it would be a one match ban, what was to be gained from not selecting him for a crucial game exactly? That sent a terrible message to the team.

So Leeds are back in ninth and could be in tenth by the time the Brighton v Watford game ends. They are now 13 points behind an automatic promotion place, and 12 behind the team in third. Reading pulled it off last season but lightning rarely strikes twice and this Leeds team lacks the passion of the Reading boys.

Time and again Warnock tells us he can't ask for more in terms of effort, but this Leeds team only plays in front of its own half full stadium; it seems the heat of an away kitchen makes them wilt like a eunuch after six pints of Stella. We always knew they were short on class; it seems they don't have much in the way of guts either.

    1. How can the downward slide continue towards the championship, when were already in it? Clearly you need to do some reading up on football

    2. I was actually referring to the author and West Ham. Given mine was the first comment posted I thought that was obvious.

One can only assume that was a piss poor attempt at humour as surely no one could be that stupid.

  2. Whilst you provoke to seek attention I can't help but agree with you. To make the play offs we need a minimum if 40 points from 21 games. This squad us not anywhere near good enough to achieve that. I didn't go today but followed the game. My heart sank when Varney was brought on and that sums up my mood. Its all about preparing for next season now as Bates and the prolonged takeover farse has seen this one off!!!

...anyway why don't you tell us all about todays defeat at Reading...

  3. Gotta hand it to Hull. Probably the best team in the Championship right now.

    4. Bigger? Really? You've got more history, we've got more future. Enjoy harping back to the seventies when Leeds were a decent side whilst history and the rest of the football league marches on together past you.

    3. It's what he does when he has no answer, but then will bitch that we don't ever come up with a decent argument. As if grammar is a problem solely within the domain of Leeds fans!! has he not seen facebook?

    4. More History? Don't be silly, we have 1 more year of history than you do, as we were founded in 1904! :-)

  5. I wouldn't worry about our woes hf. As things stand our last two defeats (albeit thanks to other teams poor results) haven't knocked us out of the running for a play off place. However it does look like your lot are heading back to the Championship.

This time next week you'll be telling us that the FA Cup is a "tin pot" tournament and a "fans cup" when the scum have dumped you out of it.

    1. Your last 2 results haven't knocked you out of the running for a play off place, but the fact that you're a very poor team has convinced me you'll be nearer the relegation places than the play offs.

  6. As usual, Hammersfan is trying to flame the Leeds fans for some unknown reason. To be fair though, your main point is correct: Leeds are going nowhere at the moment. But then, 90% of the teams in this division are going nowhere, that's the nature of the beast. What confuses me is why Hammersfan seems to love smashing Leeds when his own team are running around the field like a flock of spastic geese on ketamine. I mean come on . . . Reading? I dare say even we could beat them.

    2. On the evidence of today you'd be lucky to be able to beat Scunthorpe

  7. You've got some correct ideas here Hammersfan, however poor Leeds were and they were poor, there is no doubt that Hull were excellent today, it was a "tonking" but not all through fault of Leeds, the midfield three of the tigers with Aluko dropping deep tore the Leeds defense apart. Evans,Quinn and Meyler were fantastic, Faye was brilliant. Leeds were awful and the squad is nowhere near as good as Hull's or other promotion contenders like Cardiff, Middlesbrough,Palace or Watford and not as good as Reading's. However one nice little fact for you, we at Hull did the double over Reading last season as we have to Leeds this term. Also I notice that there is no article on West Ham's defeat at Reading but you have instead posted something about Leeds. In fact, I have another little fact for you, nine articles so far this month, 4 involve Leeds in the title, nothing for West Ham.

    2. Something I wanted to ask you actually. How do you flip between the Leeds and West Ham site? To get to the Leeds site I keep having to go through news now and find the relevant article.

Another thing...any chance you can get rid of that word and number verification bit? Bit bloody annoying on iPhones.

You will notice I kept my name off this one!

    3. Didn't know it was required mate. I will try.

There is a link between the two sites in the right hand panel near the top of the page.

  10. As a leeds fan i totally agree with the article, and we're not going to get much in the january sales to get excited about either. I think we should be having our own garage sale to be honest.

  11. i am totally disappointed with Warnock, Leeds`s situasion since Grayson was sacked isnt better and Warbock told that Leeds only need to buy one striker in January..what!? Is there any money buy players good enough to be promoted?
