Why Derby's Clough would fit the Leeds bill

All the usual suspects are being mooted for the Leeds job but nobody is thinking outside of the box. Yes O'Leary is popular with some fans, but it was his purchases that bankrupted the club, and for all the money spent and all the glamorous football played, Leeds won nothing under the Irishman except friends. I must confess, even I had a grudging respect for a while.

The suggestion that Leeds might turn the clock back and appoint Clough may seem absurd to some, but I suspect it would be a masterstroke. In a trice, history would be stood on its head, and the Dirty Dirty club would appear in a new, holier than thou glossy sheen. Yes Leeds can change. Yes Leeds can forgive and forget. Yes Leeds can admit to their sins, break with their past and look to the future.

And leaving aside the emotional baggage that would accompany the appointment, Clough Junior would be the ideal man for the job. There is a crop of young talent coming through at Leeds and Clough would give them their heads, teach them the right way to play the game - the Clough way - and develop a team over a couple of years that could challenge for the Prem and then survive in the Prem after promotion.

If appointed, Nigel would face the same "Old Guard" resistance that his father encountered on take over at Leeds, but this time the fans would be happy to see the old heads decapitated. Podgy Kenny, Shit Brown, Speaking in Tongues, Hell Hadji Diouf...there's not a Bremner, Giles, Gray or Hunter amongst them and no self respecting Leeds fan would shed tears or voice dissent if a Clough arrived and showed that bunch the exit door, along with a host of other Warnock signings.

Poleon, Byram, Lees and others should be the bedrock of a new Leeds, a young Leeds, a vibrant Leeds, a fresh Leeds - everything that the Warnock hates. To hell with experience, to hell with pragmatism, to hell with safety first, the Warnock's caterpillar has to crystallise into a new Cabbage White butterfly, and Nigel Clough would be the perfect man to orchestrate the transformation.

Dare Leeds appoint him? Would Clough accept the job if approached? It could be a marriage made in Heaven with even Brian and Don shaking hands and smiling down on Elland Road together!

  5. Utter bollocks: Clough junior has done nothing of any note in the game. You'll be suggesting Darren Ferguson or Mark Huges next.

  6. Again , what are you babbling about , "forget the past , look to the future " ,, its only dick heads like you sat on the fence that keeps harping on about the past , 99% of Leeds fans know full well our situation and that's why you average 50 replies about Leeds compared to the 6 in total you received about sunderland , reading and liecster ,,, we are looking to the future and gfh will deliver that man in the summer ,, get your money on poyet at 5-1 ,,, gfh knew the situation with warnock in Jan , they wasn't going to give a hoof ball specialist the war chest they have for next year to a man they know would be going ,, they are business men and the first bit of business was to sound out his replacement ,, that job has already been done and they obviously have to wait till season end to get him,, forget the losers being talked about now , if they wanted them they would have them in place now

  7. I tell you what. One of my pet hates is people who actually BELIEVE they are really shocking when they're not.

  12. He is not good enough
What is his best ever position with a team?

Maybe Leeds would be better putting the youngsters on a 10 year contract and then dropping to league one and building a team for the next 5 years

  19. Well written and and an interesting angle hf. But I can't see us making an approach for "young man" Clough, but saying we did I couldn't see him accepting. I've a feeling that if GFH actually do appoint anyone, it will be someone cheap and on a short term contract so when they sell off the 51% share the new controllers/owners, they can just get shot.

  21. I actually like Clough, he has done a tremendous job at Derby.

Talk about working on a shoe-string budget, and getting the best out of players. They have a squad size of about 5, and has not only brought through players like Hughes, but made great signing like Bryson.
