Leeds United's Glorious Past Under The Hammers

So sad. It seems that not even the heritage of Leeds United is sacrosanct. We all know how far the once mighty club have fallen, but it is always sad when a former "great" is reduced to selling his medals and England caps - and that is the sorry state in which Norman Hunter finds himself.

Of course, the club's new owners GFH Capital should be in a position to do the decent thing, buying these mementos from the club's glorious past and either giving them to Hunter and his family to keep in trust or putting them on display in a museum dedicated to the Revie era.

No digs here. Hunter was a nasty player at times but would have won many more caps for England but for the great Bobby Moore, and was one of the rocks around which that awesome Revie team was built. If something can be done to save this heritage, surely it should be done.

  1. Why don't you do the decent thing and not speculate why this person has decided to do this. There's nothing you know to say he has been 'reduced' to taking this action in any way. It's his decision , his business and his life. Keep your unwanted and nasty little opinions and speculations to yourself you undignified prick.

  2. HF, as a Leeds fan I read your blog with amusement at the obsession with our club, but fair play to you on this one. I totally agree with your comment. Hunter was a legend and it is very sad that he's having to resort to this, so any help that can be given to help 'Bite ur legs' keep his hard earned medals should be given. Yesteryears stars had to live on relatively small wages compared to todays overpaid spoilt brats. I hate to read that any of the old players are having to sell memoribilia. It's not right. Well said again HF.

Not sure if GFH could afford them HF.Would a loan deal with a view to a permanent one be possible?

  5. Hope you're not trying to make out that it is your bright idea that GFH should buy the medals hf? We all know you've been trolling the Vital Football Leeds United web page. You're obsessed with LUFC.

  6. Well said M8 - be good if a few LUFC fans spoke up about this injustice too - I will now...

  7. Leeds fans just excuse this prick,Hackney marshes is next to where he's from and swamp people can be hostile to outsiders for no reason at all. For instance, who in their right mind would compare Norman Hunter who won all his silverware honestly with a thieving rook like bobby moore? He knew he was past it at Mexico 70 and that England weren't good enough, but still he didn't want to return home empty handed and arranged a visit to a Bogota Jewellers.

  8. 0948, a churlish and absurd statement. Ask Pele who was the best defender he ever played against (Although, to be fair, he probably never played against Hunter). You would have to be a complete idiot not to acknowledge Moore's ability. I disliked that Revie team, but I resected the ability of Cooper, Hunter, Giles, Eddie Gray and Lorimer in particular. Sometimes, just sometimes, try to pull your snout out of the swill of hatred you seem to feed upon. You disrespect Hunter here, because Moore kept him out of the England team.

0948, Good on that web page if that's true, I haven't read the suggestion.

KSW, that's wicked! I resisted! But witty.

0905, I can't imagine that he is selling them because he doesn't care about them. Unless any association with a club managed by Warnock sickens him perhaps. I hope you are right, I hope this is fuelled by greed rather than need, because that would sort of vindicate the dislike rival fans hold for Leeds players of that era, but I fear it is not so. Either way, I think it is a shame and I hope that some way can be found to keep the medals with Hunter and his family. Genuinely.

    1. 09:05 here.Consider the fact that Eric Cantona has thrown everything he ever won into a box and never looked at them since. Honours mean different things to different people. It's Mr Hunter's business entirely as to why he sells them. You on the other hand have made an assumption he either needs the money and now, to add insult to injury, maybe he is Greedy for cashing in. Let him do what he wants. Show some dignity for a Great Player and dont presume to know what is best for him or his family.

  9. I don't understand the legacy Norman Hunter has for being a dirty/Nasty player, he just got stuck in like a hell of a lot of players on other teams did back then. Since the formation of the Premiership there have been worse players. Two of the dirtiest being Mark Hughes & Roy Keane, albeit Keane got worse when he joined Man U, he even put himself out of the game when trying to "do" Alfe Haaland.(That incident happened just to the right of were I was sitting, oh how I laughed when I saw the pain on his face). Unlike Hunter, neither Hughes or Keane have had their names officially tarnished as dirty/nasty players, perks of playing for the media's darlings I suppose.

Lets hope GFH do buy his medals!

  10. You could not give a toss about Norman Hunter or his family, hence the title of this blog. It is YOUR head that is in the swill. Every top manager had the utmost resect for Don Revie and his side, from Busby to Shankly. If you knew your football you would also know that every team had one or two who could mix it. You talk utter shit, swamp man. Even west ham supporters know that.

  11. Hammersfan, it appears I've given your little club a bit of disservice. There are now 6 West Ham fans I know who I have asked about you (sad I know but that's not the point). Ha, ha NOT A SINGLE ONE has even heard of you or your site!!

Perhaps Leeds are not 10 times bigger than West Ham in terms of fanbase after all :)!!

  12. Why should anyone buy his medals and return them to him, just the same as why on earth was Best given a transplant to soak it further in alcohol. When I retire from work, should I choose to blow all my pension money quickly, why should my company say, never mind mate here's another stash. you play football, you get paid....that's it. And by the way..........get a life you sad tw*t

  13. If Norman Hunter is selling his England caps or medals, what's it got to do with Leeds, did he get them because he played for Leeds, maybe so!!!!! after all Leeds are so good I guess.
What did West Ham do for Moore, swap his for some porno mags and a weekend ticket to Amsterdam?
