The decision to move Paul Reaney, Mick Jones, Norman Hunter, Terry Yorath and John Hendrie off the pay roll says everything about the new Cellino era at Leeds. Forget the past glories, forget the great history, forget the Revie generation and even the great man Revie himself perhaps - and count the pennies.
Leeds face a winding up order today over a paltry sum, disputing the legitimacy of the invoice submitted under the tenure of David Now I Understand The Meaning Of Sharia Law Haigh, and all we have heard from the club since the Cellino buy out is how the once mighty Whites need to cut costs and save money. God, anybody would think Master Bates was still in charge!
Except Bates respected the former greats of the club and was happy to employ them in ambassadorial roles - providing, like Lorimer, they were puppets of course.
What will be left of Leeds after Cellino has finished his financial purge one wonders? The administrative team has been decimated, the legends have been tossed to the dogs, the manager has been thrown off the derailed Feel Good Factor train, the former MD is languishing in an Arab prison fearing electrocution of his genitalia and the club may not even have a training pitch unless the rent is reduced. Still, Cellino will probably retain a personal pot to piss in.
Maybe there is a grand plan. Maybe transfer targets have been lined up at the request of a manager who has still not been appointed. Maybe Cellino understands that it is because Leeds fans live in the past that they don't understand that the world has moved on and that Leeds are now a smallish, somewhat irrelevant, busted club. Maybe.
But without its past, what has Leeds United got exactly?
Losing £1M a month what do you expect him or anyone else to do.
ReplyDeleteCosts have to be cut simples, the forensic accountants he as employed have found some astonishing irregularities where certain employee's have been suspended and some will end up in court.
We as Leeds fans have suffered for 12yrs under Bates and GFH that time is now going to stop under Cellino.
I bet there is lots of employee's looking over their shoulders,Cellino as invested millions in the short time he's been here what do you honestly expect him to do.
1 thing is clear after all the investigation into Leeds finances are complete Leeds Utd will be in the best position for years.
Maybe that is whats hurting you the fact we Leeds Utd will be back just as you fuck shit cockney's and on your way down.
We are going to suffer longer, cellino is another false dawn.
DeleteThe shit goes back before bates, last good chairman at Leeds was silver 20 + years ago.
Still at least we aren't owned by grubby porn barons.
Funnily enough, you guys claimed GFH Capital were going to revive your fortunes too. And then you saw Haigh as the big White hope. It will all come out in the wash of course, but I reckon Persil offers more hope of getting the Whites Whiter than the dirty linen in the cupboard Cellino!
ReplyDeleteDo one, you massive racist.
ReplyDeleteWhen u support leeds, the only thing we have got is hope....lets judge him on the football on the pitch.he will sort the finances out.lets get a manager, coach,or whatever he will be,get some players, and march on together........hopefully
ReplyDeleteWhen are you guys going to change the tune? Forget March, try Limp On Together!
DeleteWhy did you really drop away for 3 Months? We were oh so hoping you'd gone forever. Why did you tease us so, only to return, as psycopathically obsessed with Leeds as ever?
DeleteWhy does a cat lift its paw and allow a mouse to run free for a while, giving it hope of escape, before flipping it back up in the air again and digging its claws into the soft underbelly?
DeleteAnother post filled with drivel. As the first comment has eluded to, £1m a month loss and a web of financial irregularities is a fair old mess to clean up, and paying salaries to legends to be 'ambassadors' is hardly a good use of funds when the essential admin staff cant be paid from club revenues. As a business (which ALL football clubs are nowadays), LUFC needs to change and with any luck this is the beginning of something actually positive coming
ReplyDeleteGFH were good at 1 thing - masking the true issues with great marketing to attract an investor. In that respect, they've done it, and attracted an investor with alot of experience of a club in the top flight of Italian football - sustaining a Serie A club on it's own income without the need for a billionaire investor is a fairly substantial feat.
And to your question, what has Leeds United got exactly? One of the largest untapped fan bases in the UK, the potential to rekindle a global brand (since it was only 12 years ago we were in the semi finals of the CL, the international community wont have forgotten) and now an owner who understands the need for stability along with football performance, not just squeezing profit from us, Yes, we arent a huge club any more and i dont think any Leeds fan would profess to think that....but we do have assets (certainly more than West Ham) that make us have the potential to be great again.
He's pinching pennies and wasting pounds, how many of these companies that pay for the hospitality will turn up just to watch the match and have a meal, meeting the likes of hunter and reaney is why they book these executive boxes. If they aren't there expect the corporate side to make less money, there's no reason to book a box without the old legends, they might as well just buy match tickets and eat elsewhere
DeleteTHE largest untapped fan base in the country. Biggest city in europe without a top flight team, but catchment area is bigger as places like wakeful don't even have a pro club.
Deletethe famous 5 will still get free match day hospitality inc : meal , game , drinks for them and their chosen guest for every home game . not bad compromise .
ReplyDeleteIt's a piss take to legends like reaney and hunter, who despite their huge influence on our club didn't earn anything like the silly money players get today in their time. For there generation there was 3 options when their careers were over - become a manager, buy a pub or do PR work. None of them are millionaires.
DeleteMaybe's and more maybe's hf! Maybe you just haven't an opinon which is worthy of any serious debate! ....and to talk about us Leeds fans living in the past is a bit rich coming from a 'ammer who avoids his clubs games and still cracks one out over the likes of Bobby Moore and Trevor Brooking don't you think?
ReplyDeleteLegends should remain that and not be a drain on this great club. I want Cellino to succeed and be here for the long term and he's made a good start in achieving that in my opinion. What would you sooner have, legends on the payroll or the money being used to recruit new players?
ReplyDeleteThey aren't a drain, they bring money in. Without them who's going to buy one of them expensive executive boxes?
DeleteA very enjoyable article containing reasonable ideology most of which I can relate to. I am saddened to see the club in the state it’s in yet still amazed at the blind faith that some Leeds fans retain. What we do know about our new owner is that his past record is equally as dodgy as our old Ken, Haigh and GHF and yet some fans still see him as our savior. We have no idea what he plans for the future and despite the fact that we are manager less, no training facilities, half the staff on redundancy notices, a winding up petition pending there has still been not one voice of reassurance coming out of the club. We are however still expected to chuck in our couple of grand by way of season tickets etc but no one from the club has had the decency to tell the supporters what’s actually going on. And before anyone shouts me down I have been a season ticket holder since the four or five sacked ‘legends’ were playing and all I’m asking for is a degree of honest information from the club instead of being bombarded with marketing e mails telling me I have only four days left to piss another couple of grand into the wind.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you mate. You speak as a real fan rather than as one of the Heads Up Their Own Arses Brigade!
DeleteNo doubt you've unhooked yourself from the mains supply to write to David Haigh and reassure him that electrodes on the genitals are quite pleasurable.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know, but I'll take your word for it!
DeletePleasurable for Leeds fans if they televised it!
DeleteEven despite all the shit we've had to put up with for nearly 2 decades, Leeds fans have 1 thing most fans don't have - each other. Best bloody fans in England.
DeleteOnly in football would £1million be called paltry, when are United fans going to accept that without "The Italian Muppet" and his money there would be no United he is the only lifeboat that came to our sinking ship, Oh yer there was talk of the so called Leeds Consortioum but to be fair were thry really serious...I think not.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it wrong to talk about our heroe's? fans from other clubs do but the difference is that thier clubs do not keep them all on the pay-roll, I have said before I do not like Cellino but I have to be fair and say he has, so far, put his money where his mouth is.
Next season is a major season for United, they will have to prove all these problems have not transferred to the team so we must all keepm faith however hatd it is in what has been and still will be a great club and team
It's anoying that the wendies have just got that billionaire in. Could have done so much more with us than with that hideous stadium & stupid bloody brass band. Reckon a fair few of them scum shirts you see all over Sheffield will be getting binned and raced by wendy shirts
DeleteI'll tell you what leeds have And its something west ham don't have and that's loyal fans!!! all this has happened to Our club yet we are still here Still cheering still hoping still believing. unlike west ham who booed their team off the pitch last season even when they Won 1-0. you guys cant even support your team when you're winning just imagine how you would react if you have to go through what we do.
ReplyDeleteas usual U won't publish my comments as anyone that has a valid point or opinion against you Never gets published!!!!
Hear, Hear!
DeleteDid you know that due to injuries sustained in a car crash during the early 90s,Harry Rednapp has no sense of smell or taste? Thats why he lasted so long at west ham. It would also suggest he'd be a perfect choice as assistant manager should lyall, greenwood or moore return from the grave/urn to manage west ham again.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ,too true 12.34. What a plan. The armchair hammer gives new meaning to "circuit testes". Appaently he uses his cock as an earth for his hair raising hobby.
