Leeds looking backwards as they dream of the Prem

It's strange that the only two names that Leeds are being linked with are Max Gradel and Lucy Becchio, two former players who have not been tearing up any trees since they have moved elsewhere. I suppose the "Better the Devil you know" argument applies, but given neither is playing football regularly at the moment, it's hard to imagine that they will add the vital spark that Leeds fans crave.

Becchio wasn't universally admired amongst the fans even when he was at the club, and his decision to defect to Norwich will not have made him any new friends. His limitations have been cruelly exposed at Carrow Road and, looking ahead, he would seem a poor option if Leeds really are planning on being in the Prem next season.

Gradel, meanwhile, looks like a classic case of a player who has not trained on. Leeds fans have fond memories, but the record books are littered with players who looked the dog's bollocks for a season or two but ended up as little dried up hamster grapes.

Wildred Zaha on loan from the Scum would be a much more imaginative option than Gradel and there must surely be a better striker out there somewhere than Becchio.

    Completely agree about Becchio. I think Smiths going to be better anyway all round (tin hat on) I would like to see Mad Max back though.

    Gradel was sold against his and Simon Grayson's will by Bates.
    He's a handful for opposition defenders, how would resigning him be looking backwards? The only club I see looking backwards is yours hf, looking back to life in the Championship.

    I agree, and given Brian's background in scouting, I'm hoping he comes up with something more imaginative.
    I'm not sure Becchio gives us anything much different from what Smith has done over the last few games. Gradel has done ok in France, but why him as opposed to anyone else? It's not as if he would recognise the manager, playing style or 95% of the players if he came back.

    for once i totally agree with you, gradel would be a risk after his knee injury, Becchio cant get a game. As much as i loved watching them play we should be looking forward not backwards.

    Gradel has done well until he got injured - came back recently and scored in a 1-0 win.
    Do some research before you come on here looking for Leeds buddies and an invite to ER.
    One things for certain - Leeds wont be linked with anyone from the spammers. They are the very definition of championship fodder, the football league show and below! ;)

      lol ok, I'm in the Uk at the moment , but I spend a fair amount in Perth, glad I'm not there at the moment! I was praying for a miracle last nigh,t at least Stokes showed some grit.

    As a Leeds fan I agree fully with your sentiments - but I am afraid beggars can't be choosers and not selling anyone in January will feel like a major signing. I personally think Mac will have other irons in his fire!!

    I would take gradel back all day long.we have been crying out for a pacy winger all season.becchio can stay at norwich as far as im concerned.we need better,but he would give is all if he came back,but like u said,we should be aiming higher.probably all paper talk anyway.

    That is where you are wrong. Gradel would always be welcome and, is an extremely good player, is fit and has been playing and indeed scoring (do your research), hasn't got the baggage zaha has of not having kicked a ball in a competative game for a certain team that's playing worse than our own. I actually agree with you regarding Becchio but why would anyone take any football/transfer advice from anyone affiliated with wet spam, you don't sign any strikers, you only sign crocks, criminals and pantomime characters and you only play over head height passes due to your dinosaur manager's beige pyjama + bannana sandwitch approach to football. You are on your way down and Sam is heading for the dole queue.

    I think you are right. There is a danger that people focus toom uch on previous contributions as opposed to current potential. Gradel's cruciate ligament tear and Becchio's lack of football don't give too much confidence and Zaha would be terrific for us, as he was for Palace last season.

    Gradel is full of tricks and ability, he can turn a game around from nothing. Meanwhile at Upton park we have a classic case of a club buying someone to keep them in the Prem in the case of Angela Carol, Prolific scorer, can change a game from defeat to victory, just amazing..... pity though in Angela's case it's on a playstation . you should remember that while watching the tv from your horse drawn caravan on your little fuzzy screened portable tv you don't have a grip of English football

    Oh dear, even a bit of research will tell you gradel is well respected in France, and has only been hampered by injury. Seen as one of the better players who helped st Etienne finish high up the table last season. He even scored in their recent 1-0 win over Montpellier.

      No because I am in Bucharest so a trip to White Hart Lane is not feasible. And yes, last time I was back in the UK I missed a game because of a family funeral and the need to drive my mother back following the death of her sister. Not ashamed of that either.
