The Guessing Game starts at Leeds

So does Nice Guy Brian want "six or seven" new recruits, or does his list include options, should his first and second targets prove unobtainable? That's the first of so many questions provoked by news of the "hit list" passed by the bespectacled boss to his GFH Capital employers.

It could be the Warnock speaking last summer as McDermott warns, "Giving a list and getting players over the line isn’t the same and it’s not easy to get players over the line. My experience of football is that sometimes it takes longer than you’d like" and we all remember that, like Brian, Old Big Gob was keen "to do business early" because "Recruitment is going to be really important for us.”

Of course, there's no surprise that McDermott wants to recruit - every team in the Championship will be planning to do exactly the same thing - but the big question, which remains unanswered, is how much GFH Capital are prepared to invest. Many Leeds fans hope that the parsimonious approach adopted in January was prompted by the knowledge that the Warnock was leaving, and will repeat the mantra that it would be stupid to announce how much there is to spend, for fear of alerting selling clubs and so raising prices, but some sort of public commitment from the Board would be reassuring.

Do Leeds really need seven? Two strikers should be the priority, then there's a need for somebody with pace to play wide, and then there's a crying need for a play maker. The defence is decent but perhaps an additional centre back is required. That's five. Invest £2m on each recruit and that's only an outlay of £10m, and that's not much of a punt with the megabucks of the Prem as the jackpot.

  3. Slipping aren't you?
A supposed West Ham fan with an unhealthy interest in matters at a club 200 miles away,
with no obvious link to yours.
However, full marks for a constructive post. Maybe you should flesh out your articles with news for us about your club, as they're not exactly newsworthy are they? On second thoughts don't bother, nobody in Leeds gives one!

  4. its such a pity brian mac got the leeds job when clearly the leeds board should have appointed you. you obviously know how better to do the job.with you in charge wed win the european cup in three years. if brian mac ever leaves can you take over then all us leeds fans worries would be over.

  5. I totally agree with you HF..."Keen to business early,etc.etc." those words could be from the Neil Warnock mantra of last year.... You are right,in my opinion,it would be better to spend on a few QUALITY players, spread throughout the team in 4/5 key positions, rather than 6/7 players of average ability.
Keep up your posts,a mixture of both sensibly thought through observations and also some very
    funny "mickey-taking".
    Thank You for the entertainment.

    ones.

  7. Even though I think your a complete Tosser , I do agree that the strikeforce does need addressing ,only 57 league goals scored all season, even Bristol City scored more at home, A Captain wouldn't go amiss either, the whole team lacks leadership,.

  8. Don't be surprised if some of the youth products get their chance to shine. Also as an ex scout with a good record of unearthing gems don't be surprised if he signs the odd player who at first you might think whoooooo but turns out quite special.
So 3 to 5 might just be enough, lets face it if he can get that rag tag bunch of cloggers has beens and never were's to play like he did then think what he could do with a couple of half decent players.

  12. I just can't understand the obsession you have with a club that is 200 miles away and not in the same division as yours, and with absolutely nothing to link us with. You are just an attention seeking prick, that uses the name Leeds United to get your crappy blog some hits. You have even gone to the extremes of adding "Nice guy Brian" in your sub-title, and why not add Billy Davies and write bollocks about Nottingham Forest 7 days a week? You sad twat. Anyway, the sun is shining and I think I will go out and enjoy my life. What will you be doing today HF. Trawling the news now section for any tiny snippet, that you can twist into a load of bollocks about Leeds as usual?

  19. As this blog is a pile of shit written by an anonymous coward, best not to get too annoyed or bothered by it ladies and gentlemen. Instead could anyone tell me what would happen if all 4 contestants took the minus figure on "The Chase"? Would they owe money to the tv company that makes it and if they couldn't pay would they send the bailiffs in?

  20. Fair play bubble blower. Can't argue with your post. I think we have a bit more faith on Brian mcd than we did on the hoofball man warnock.

  25. You really are obsessed with THE MIGHTY WHITES aren't you? Like the other poor wet spammer who commented, I think you should concentrate on you own bubble blowing club rather than ours. I wouldn't dream of blogging about a team other than MY team. Get a grip and blog about the spammers or actually give in & admit that you are clearly a leeds fan in disguise... Reetard springs to mind!
